Glamis Question
#1
I am going to glamis in about a week and a half and am wondering if i need sand tires or will my bear claw tires be ok. I am going to want to climb the hills while I am out there so I know i am going to need traction. Any help is appriciated. Thanks

The tries should be ok just take some air out of them. I hope you have somebody who knows the area to ride with cause you will be the only people out there. It is 106 to 118 degrees F in the daytime now. Some people Ride at night now during the full moon. Take plenty of water a cell phone and a GPS with you to be on the safe side.

i wouldn't go to glamis without paddles, if you were to make it to the wall or any other big hill you wont make it up without paddles, especially as dry as the sand is now. as cal said it is hot, most if not all riding will be done at night and without paddles you will be digging yourself out most of the ride. just my .02

I would have to agree, as high as the dunes are and as dry as the sand is, you wouldn't have much fun without paddles. You can get away without paddles in a place like Pismo because the dunes aren't as high and the sand is wet.

Good lord man, why are you going there in the middle of summer?! If you do go, take as much water as you can carry when you go for a ride and let someone know where your at. You get a break down far enough out in the dunes during this kind of heat could mean bad news. I also agree with everyone else, get paddles or you'll hate riding out there. Good luck an be safe.

I agree with all the above Plus I wouldn't go without a GPS, you can get GPS cordinates for all the hills and such from several web sites, be sure you use the same "datum" that they did

I'm with RoostKing. I went to Ocotillo Wells (Very near Glamis) recently and it was about 112-115 out there. It was VERY Miserable. Even night riding was too hot. The ONLY good ride we got in was at 6am or so, BEFORE the sun came up. I think it was still about 80 or 90 out, and it was a very hot ride, but bearable at that time. We left earlier than planned because it was so hot. After that trip, I've opted to make sure to get weather reports on the locations I want to ride at for a week or two prior to the trip to ensure we don't hit that kinda heat again. It was just miserable.

Since you're traveling halfway across the country to ride in the sand, why not go a few hours further west and go to Pismo. It's not nearly as big as Glamis and the dunes are alot smaller, but since it's on the beach it rarely gets above the eighties in the daytime. Even if it does get unseasonably hot you can always jump in the water to cool off.
