I have a 2001 scrambler 400 and it has a clicking sound coming from the head area, probally the piston. Are polaris pistons this loud or is it ready to go?Will going to premix quiet it down?i heard that the oil injector runs it lean at idle and richens the mixture as rpms increase...any truth to that.

Pull the exhaust pipe off and inspect the piston. If it's discolored and scored the slug's gone bye-bye. If it looks bad, pull the carb, intake and reeds and look at the intake side. If it looks bad, it's time to invest in a Wiseco.

The Polaris two-stroke are a little noisy. It is difficult to give you a recomendation without hearing it. My 250 does have a little rattle.
