Note to winter drivers, I found a nice collection of ice in the bottom of my Air Filter box under the seat of my SP500. So much that the filter was frozen to the bottom. I noticed that the drain hole had frozen shut and allowed water/ice build up. A little heat and air hose blast fixed that.

 

Are you having just dozens of problems with your machine, or what?

Boy I'll tell ya. I think I bought a lemon flavored Polaris, but I haven't given up on Polaris, based on the fun it has given me (when it was running) I'm still a major fan of the machine. Must have one of them machines built on early monday morning after a Viking loss, or a friday afternoon before fishing season opens.

 

It’s possible (probable?) your air box inhaled a bunch of snow. This happened to me after a day’s ride when it was snowing heavily, but it still doesn’t make a lot of sense to me considering where the air box breaths from. I didn’t have enough water in there to get to the filter though. SWAC, you do know that the air box drain isn’t supposed to be open don’t you? There’s supposed to be a little “T” shaped red plug in the bottom of that drain hose that you pull out when you want to drain it. If that plug is missing that’s probably the source of your water.

FloodRunner, no I did not know that there was supposed to be a "T" on the bottom of the box. If I had one, its gone now, Oh well, just another addition to my list of comments to Polaris, if they would ever have such a thing as customer feedback!

 

It’s pretty hard to blame Polaris for the missing plug, or from the sound of it maybe your hose and plug are missing, unless you know for sure the machine came without these parts. At this point it seems like that would be hard to say for sure.

You definitely need to correct the problem though or you’ll be suckin’ all kinds of things up through that drain hole that you shouldn’t be, especially in summer.

It is very possible to get water/ice in the airbox in the winter by inhaling snow dust by following another quad or snowmobile down the trail.

 

January 20, 2000 hey I just noticed that someone replied to a one year old post. How long ago do they still keep these posts from? At first I was thinking "somebody stole my handle" but then I figured it out. Icidentally, no more ice problems..

 

How did you cure the problem? Did you engineer a "snow snorkel?"
