Questions about K&N clamp on
#1
I just got the K&N clamp on for the stock carb. What do you do about the tube that runs off the top of the carb, I think it's like a vacuum that runs the slide. What do you do about the rest of the hoses as well.

Plug the one at the carb with an automotive type vacume plug.Run the engine vent hose up behind the plastic on top of the oil tank making sure it is between the rails for the fan and zip tie securely.Ron Wood and others sell a very small K&N vent type air filter, slide the hose over the new filter and hose clamp securly.I made a bracket and attached it to the fiter and bolted it to one of the oil tank bolts. The higher up it is mounted the longer the filter will last between cleanings.I have seen other people zip tie the filter instead of making a bracket but my way is much cleaner.Make sure you rejet the carb because the new filter will flow a lot more air making it run lean.Hope this helps

I thought that the stock carb worked best with the snorkle. I left the snorkle on and just put a lot of 1 1/2 inch holes in ithe air box and removed the lid. It holds the K-N filter that and I didn't have to worry about relocating the rectifier. Thres a pic on my bio page.

Will this filter hit the seat????</end quote></div>
Yes, and will get pinched between it and the frame. After talking to Hightower I cut the seat base just enough to clear the filter, when it does touch now it will just be the soft foam of the filter. I also reshaped the two frame gussets below the filter to clear a bit better under the filter and used some door trim on the edge so the filter will not hit a metal corner there. I ended up with about 3/8in clearance over the top of the filter and 1/4in under. If I slide all the way to the front of the seat it will just touch the filter. I may try to shim the seat if I have any trouble.
I also am running a TM, but a TM45 and if I had a stock carb I would run a snorkel.
