I was just wondering, because I usually get about 7-12 hr's out of a plug. They go really quick on long trail rides where I'm not at full throttle all the time. I'm using a NGK B8ES, and switched to a Champion N2C with the same results. I can usually tell when the plug is at the end of it's life, because the motor losses all power, and starts to miss at half throttle, and I got to hammer it to get a response. Then it gets to the point to where it won't run completely. Even if I clean the plug really good, I get a backfire or to, but nothing. I then have to go buy a $2.50 plug, and it will fire up on the first crank. Is this just the norm out of a 2 stroke, or am I having other problems? Everything on this motor is stock by the way.

I haven't had to put a plug in mine for quite some time (probably have 100 hours on the plug so far). What does your plug look like when you change to another one? I am using autolite plugs that are a drop in for the BR8ES, a friend of mine works at autolite so he sends them to me.

you are having problems cause with the oil injection your plugs will last alot longer than that.have you turned up your oiler?or are you pre mixing your gas?something isnt right no way your plugs should foul that quick.
by the way trash the champion's, ngk's are a much better plug

My friend has a 1991 Trail Boss 350L 4x4 and they never changed a plug til this weekend. They had the orignal plug in it. But mine, I got 12 hrs out of a plug. Depends on the motor.

I have run all summer on the same plug and I premix my gas. I run the BR8ES plug and I have yet to foul a plug since replacing the top end back in January. Sounds like it may not be jetted correctly.

If your jetting is good and your oil injector is OK then you may have a weak spark. Take out the plug, hook it up and ground it and see if there is a nice blue spark. if its orange or real small maybe look to your ignition coils and CDI. Compare your spark to one that runs OK, if you access to one. When things are running right its hard to foul them. GJ

The plug looks great. And after I clean it, it looks pretty much new. But it won't carry a spark for nothing. I figured since May, I've been thru 3 NGK & 1 Champion. And getting ready to go buy #5 today. Between the NGK & Champion, I couldn't tell any difference, but the Auto Parts store by my house only carry Champion, and I would have to drive 20 miles to get a NGK. The oil settings are set at what it was when it was stock. It has never been messed with. I figure I may rip the premixer off and start mixing my own fuel. That may fix my problems.

The oil injection is the problem here. If you have changed carbs you will really notice this. My advice is to get an oil injector block off and start premixing. Pre mix it at 40:1 and you shouldn't have spark plug problems.

1. Adjust oil injection......it comes set rich from the factory.
2. Could be jetted too rich.
3. Dirty air filter will create a rich condition.
4. Run an NGK BR8EVX.....platinum plug. Costs more, but will not foul out nearly as soon.....I have not fouled one out.
These are tips from my personal experience with a 2001 Xplorer 400.

Yeah, something is deffinatly going on. I have never fouled a plug in my quad. I usually change it every couple of months just "for fun" anyway. Geez, even my friends Banshee at trail speeds will only foul like 2 each summer.

I have also heard that the BR8EVX is a good plug, and isn't supposed to foul as much. Maybe you could give them a try. I run BR8ES plugs in mine, and like I said I haven't had a problem.
