Sounds like a timing problem. Can you advance the timing on the machine.

my screen name is "new2this660r" for a reason i have no idea how to advance the timeing.. but it only knocks for a second. seems to me its just too low of an rpm to get it to really make power, just like a manual transmission car, if yer in like second gear and 900 rpms, it kinda knocks a little to till it gets a little speed up

Sounds like it could be detonation, or "spark knock". What type of gas are you running? I suggest always running premium, even in a stock quad. I know exactilly what you're talking about, becuase after I did all my engine mods on my 400ex, it would do the same thing if I ran pump gas, and really lugged the motor (such as being on a hill in a gear too low).I say maybe move up to premium gas if thats not what your currently using, and don't worry about it. I hope you have fun with your new quad...I know they changed my life in a good way.

How new 2 this are you? Is this your first quad? 4 strokes are none for their chuging and thumping. Especialy, when your new to riding and happen to be learning on a 660cc beast. Don't mean to offend.

I am pretty sure it requires 92 octane or better. Have you tried changing your plug?

just like the sayed, always use higher octane, and check the gap on your plug, mine did that for awhile, i guess i accidently taped the head of the plug while putting it in.. but other than that, yea 4 strokes make alot of interesting sounds.. good luck!
