You know, anything is possible with the right ammount of cash. Although, like Xplor said, it is probably best to get something lighter, and better handling to make it easier on yourself.
However, it would be awesome to see a Polaris running up front in an MX race. In a perfect world, where infinite cash flow was reality, it could happen. You'll have to figure that unless you are one of the greatest riders in the world, you'll have to just about totally rebuild the Polaris from the ground up to make it compete. There was talk of a frame for the Polaris built from the 250r design, that is about $10,000 alone from HPD (or something like that).
If you've got the funding, give it a shot or send some cash over my way !
Good luck.

Here's the ticket Piranha: Take out the 400 engine, get it ported and piped by HPD...then junk the rest and stick it in that 10,000$ HPD chassis with all the fixins'. That thing must be amazing! Can you imagine having over 60 ponies coming from an auto-trannied MX chassis quad. I have heard that there chassis is superior to many after-market frame builders. Like you said...if money was no object, I would be first in line for one of those!

You've got that right! That would really cause an uproar...an automatic Polaris MX quad going and and stomping all of those boys with their 250r's, Banshee's, EX's, and Raptors . If somebody wants a guarenteed ticket to fame they could go out and do that....They would really stand out in the crowd. You sell all of your toys, and I will sell all of mine, and we can get right on it .

Ps. Then we could put Trail Blazer 250 plastic on it !!!!!!

My 400 is a great trail bike but I have no illusions about its mx capabilities, The suspension just wouldnt hold up in my opinion, I love my bike, It is a GREAT trail machine, But when it comes to jumping and trying to throw it around the track its wieght and suspension just dont agree with it, The right amount of money in shocks, struts and wieght loss would help but you could start off with a proven canidate with alot more favorble results, Although Xplor's ideas would be wicked!!! On another note if you want to sell your billet head drop me a line im in the market

bermbanger400,
Why limit yourself to MX? There are many Polaris quads competing in GNCC (Grand National Cross Country). Like Todd400 said, they are great trail machines and GNCC is nothing more than a big trail ride, although at vastly faster pace and for about 2 hours on end. Hare scrambles is fading away fast, but you can still find some of these out there too.

I run mine at the MX track ONLY on practice night just for fun but know I could never be competitive w/ it. I would beat a couple of the last place guys racing but thats about it. If you have to slow down for the big jumps, every lap you cant make up the time. Although, I am WAY faster than most of the quads on the track in a straight or corner but that doesn't help if there's jumps in between. You have to stay wide open for the jumps. Try & get a 400EX already modified w/ the wider A-arms or an already MX setup 250R. Anything else is pointless. I know Banshee, Raptor,DS owners will complain about that but the 250R & 400 EX are the ONLY way to go for MX. I always see bikes already setup for MX for sell so that way it will save you LOTS of money. A new MX suspension setup is VERY expensive. You dont need HP for MX just GREAT suspension. Some MX tracks have long stright or long uphills where power might make a diff but a stock 400EX w/ suspension is SUPER fast on MX tracks belive it or not. They absolutely sky those things way higher & farther than you can imagine with having such low HP. It's amazing.
Good luck
