How do you like your Big Bear?
#1
I bought a used 91 Big Bear 4x4 from a friend a few years ago. I use it for hunting mostly. 2 years ago I went bear hunting at the NC coast. The place was already wet and it rained most of the first day. The place was all pines with some fire breaks cut into it. The fire breaks were essentially motes of brackish water. My Bear carried me, my bow and stand, my buddy and his gun and stand. Combined we all weighed at least 500 pounds. I wore waders the whole weekend. We got stuck one time and that was because we got high centered. I had to push because my buddy didn't bring waders. The club had built a garage for all of the ATV's and there were at least 25. They were all 4x4's 'cause you could forget taking a 2x4 in there. The guys in the club were very convicted on their choice of equipment. There was only one Polaris and I was told that many more were traded in for Honda's which constituted most of the machines there. All of them, 'cept mine, had a winch and a majority of them were Superwinches. Believe it or not, I was told that a bunch of them had replaced Warns with the Superwinch. Hard to believe. BTW, going there is a terrible thing to do to your ATV. The brackish water and mud will stain everything and you can't get it off. My brakes were never the same and are now due for a complete overhaul. How do you like your Big Bear?

My first quad was a 1988 big bear. This was the most reliable4 wheeler in the group.it was the reason I replaced it with two more yamahas. The brake issue on mine was this....I gave up on the front drums, they were always getting mud in them and I was tired of messing with them. The rear only worked fine for 6 years.I sold it to a guy with polio and he now uses it for hunting and pushing snow.It still runs a-1 to this day.
