I have been out of the motorsport thing for awhile. When I was 14 my father bought me a RM 80 dirtbike and i loved it. It was so fast when I was that little. Its still fast but its too small. I want to buy a 400ex next spring or maybe buy whatever new honda puts out. My question is....how would the speed compare between my old little 80 and the new 400ex. I know the diff between 2 and 4 strokes. i was just wondering .....thanks guys....

As far as the total fun factor I would have to say it goes with the dirtbike. In our woods I can run away from the Raptor with my Kdx200 because I don't have to worry about hitting the trees. Out in the open where you don't have to worry about hitting trees I would say the Raptor is more fun. The honda 400EX is a nice machine and you will have fun on that but its not in the same park as a good dirtbike though. I am just lucky that I can afford both types and have the best of both worlds. I've had quads and bikes, and I honestly like quads better....Well...in a way at least. I think going out and taking a bike on a track is just plain awesome, and I like that better than trail riding an ATV. BUT, just riding on a track get's boring, and that's why I sold my bike and got a quad.

Sure, you can trail ride a dirtbike no problem, but I found it to be a pain compared to a quad. With a bike you can't stop riding hard for a second during most trail situations unless the trail you are on is like a road.

Some people will disagree, but this is MY honest opinion.

Also, performance wise I think the 400ex would outrun an 80cc bike, but I haven't had enough experience with the EX to say so. Pit it against a 125cc bike and it would lose.

I know it would definately lose to a 125. Having a racing bike on the trails to me is just kinda annoying. I shift so fast through the gears and im at the end of the trail. My house mate was up at Tug hill in the adirondaks and saw a ton of quads....So i think i will buy the 400ex and kep my dirtbike around for a little while...thanks guys...

Well Piranha one thing I do like about are ATV's is when you stop somewhere you have an instant lawn chair. I know on our Honda 300 4 by 4 I love to go to the top of the hill on our property and take a pillow and kick back and put the pillow on the rear rack and sometimes I even fall asleep. I feel so good after that nap on that ATV. Chet

Yeah, you'd have to have good balance to do that on a bike

To answer the speed question, a 400ex will easily beat a 2 stroke 80 when both are at top speed and it is fairly even in acceleration until to 80 tops out. I was riding behind my friend on a cr80 and I was going high in 3rd gear when he was through the powerband in 5th gear. As far as overall fun, I love doing doughnuts, wheelies and jumping the ex, but I also love the sound and the hard hitting 2 stroke dirtbikes. For me, I prefer to own the ex, which I can ride year round and ride my friends 80 once in a while.

They will be close if the 2 stroke is fresh, but the 400ex would prevail, a 125cc on the other hand, well it would walk right away from the 400ex. Those mx 80's are a really fun bike with 11" suspension and weighing 145 lbs. top speed low 60's, with that BIG BANG for your buck you cant beat'em.

Too each is own or just own two....

p.s. raptoryfm660r, I've done a little bit more than just sleep on my quad, hehehe
