My baby (TC416ex) blew up :(

This past weekend was the worst ever...I was racing a big AMA tt race at east bend in NC..me and my buddy started off getting the hole shot, he on his set up 89' 250r and my on my 2001 TC 416ex....Well we where moving along nice ahead of a pack of about 12 quads in the sportsman division, when he spun out and i was running first till a 250x(??)NO WAY, came flying by my full race 416 like i was sitting still, and then i spun out getting with him in the corner, only to be passed by another built 400 and then to run a built raptor down , oh yes the raptor got his eyes pulled out on the strait away, but anyways, while up against him, i was rounding a corner and "TINK***"...the motor quits and i clutch it off the course.....i got some pro riders to look at it and it had locked up, and had no oil in it....but the thing is, i had just checked the oil before the race and had rode a heat before that......so it was fine, somehow i lost all my oil.......its a terrible situation...i have about 2500 in the motor alone and about 4000 in suspension and cant afford to get this fixed......college just started so my income is going to that... at this time its being tore down to see whats wrong......hass anyone ever heard of a quad losing oil like that? and there was no plugs or hoses lose, and no oil in the air box....... IT SUCKS!!!!!

This is the first time I hear of a 4 stroke locking up...anyways, you can usually repair your stuff cheap. I seized my snowmobile engine (a 2 stroke twin) and repaired it for 125$cdn. I cleaned all the aluminium deposit on the cylinder walls with a flat screwdriver and fine sandpaper, and got a set of used pistons/rings/bearings and new Orings for the head.
This is the 2 stroke advantage...not many things to break.
Look at your engine...are the valves OK? Did the piston melt itself on the cylinder walls? Just think cheap...and try to find used parts. When you don't want to spend...you can go ahead.

i had a similar problem with mine after i installed my 440 kit. The oil rings were installed incorrectly and it let oil blow by them very quickly. This ended up in the oil going dry quickly and the piston making cylinder contact. The only thing hurt was the piston and rings. The cylinder wall just needed to be rehoned. All in all it cost about $130.
Did the motor work just recently get done? I heard its a common problem with installing these oil rings incorrectly. Did your bike smoke at all?
