There are so many pipes to chose from:
ESR, LRD, FMF, DG, CT, PT, Bills, Dyno Port...
What is your engine set up for? If you are set up for low end then a low-mid pipe is what you need.GT Thunder has some HP and torque comparisons.
How much do you have to spend? Do you need chrome?

Of the two that you mentioned, I would say that CT is the best pipe. I once rode a buddies 89 R with a CT midrange pipe, and Boysen reeds and K&N Filter, bored .30 over and that thing freaking ripped. My 86 R which is ported and stuff like that didn even compare. I had to think that something else was done to the motor, but he swore it wasnt. When he sold the bike, I tried like hell to buy that pipe, but he sold it with the bik, it was a great pipe for sure.
I hve ridden them with FMF pipes and wasnt that impressed.
If you have hte money, get an LRD adjustable, that way you can dial it in to whatever kinda poewr you want.

I run the CT midrange on my 89 fro MX and I love it. The only other pipes I have rode with were the FMF fatty and FMF high rev. My CT does everything I want and more. I would love to try an ESR 5 or 6 but would like to see some Dyno results before spending $200 on something I don;t need.
Backcountry, when is that ATC source pipe report going to be done? I thought it was supposed to be posted in Aug?
Just because the LRD is adjustable it isn't the best pipe. I have heard many people say they don't like it.

We wanted to do some extended testing and more varied testing to really get a true picture. I have the TRX-5 Centermount on my own personal bike and have a TRX-6 to try out some more on a couple different set-ups. Throw in some server problems with the site...it tends to push the date out some too....

I don't know where we got the mis-conception that FMF made good pipes. LRD, ESR, CT, Paul Turner, Bills.. ANY of those are better than FMF. The pros run them because they get paid to run them. If you have never rode an ESR, CT, or LRD piped R, it's a whole new ball game!

I have had both and prefer the CT. It not only performs better but it looks much better if you get the chrome. My FMF looked good until my first trip to Pismo and then it got little spots of rust everywhere. They are both loud!! I would have to say the CT is louder though. Just my two cents.
