Sportrax 250EX!
#1
I'm considering a Honda Sportrax 250 EX for my wife. I don't know much about them and have never ridden one. She has zero experience riding but I want it to be fun for others with more experience to ride. Is it strictly a beginners quad or does it have the enough power to be fun? She needs something with an automatic clutch! Are they worth buying?
Thanks,
Mitch

my wifes first quad also. she loves it . lightweight feels powerful and on trail its pretty fast. i like playing on it wheelies and all. for an aggressive rider it wouldnt be enough. she takes it to silver lake dunes and has a blast. get one you cant go wrong.

Hey Chet, what's up?
I rode it for about 30 minutes on cement last Sunday, it's been pouring ever since. Everywhere is going to be too muddy for a while, I might have to trade it in on a Grizzly just so I can get some riding in! I need a bigger rain gauge!

I worked my Recon today hauling rock around to fix the ruts on some of our trails. Our logbook on the Recon now reads 333 hours. The Recon is very similar to the 250EX and it should be very reliable, at least ours has been. Our Raptor will be breaking out with The KDX 200 tomorrow. We finally have broken the cycle of the weekend rains so we will be doing the enduro practice at our place. Chet

Sounds like fun! We've had a ton of rain and we're expecting more. Just my luck!
I took my wife looking at quads the other day and she liked the sporty looking 250 EX. It's a very nice looking quad, I was just wondering if it was actually a good quad or just something that Honda threw together as cheap way to ride. It has to be very dependable or I don't need it. Honda's in general are very very dependable!
What should I expect to pay? Are they in demand? If they're not a fast seller, then they should be willing to deal on them pretty good! The Honda dealer quoted me price + freight for a total of $4499 drive out. That seems a bit steep for a 250 4 stroke! I can get an AG exemption if I buy a utility quad, that way I won't have to pay tax on it!

$4499??? You need to RUN out of that dealership and never come back!
The MSRP of the 250ex is $3899. That is the MOST you should pay for one - including any "fees" they include. You should be able to find a dealership that charges less than MSRP. Last spring when honda offered the $150 cash back, I paid $3600 for my wife's 250ex. In other words, the dealer received $3749 for the 250ex (Still too much!).
Just think of them as car dealers, you certainly wouldn't pay MSRP value for a new car - you should pay considerably less.
They are charging you over 15% more than MSRP value - Take your business elsewhere.
As far as the 250ex, my wife loves it. She had a recon before, and she claims it's a night and day difference - handles better, more powerful. You can't go wrong (Just don't pay more than MSRP!).

Thanks ogre, it sounds like a cool little quad. Most of the dealers that I've ran across act like everything is such a hot item that they can't keep enough on their showroom. They never seem to be willing to deal, not near as easy as a car dealer.
She likes Yellow better than Red though, the Yellow is only available in the 2002. That figures!
Thanks again,
Mitch
