I'm in the process of changing the front sprocket on the front chain, the one that connects to the cv shafts to turn the front tires. I need to get the cv shaft off to get to the sprocket, there is a pin that goes through the shaft to hold it on. How do I get the pin out, does it turn out(I don't think it does, cuz it doesn't have an allen head, or torx head), or do I need to pound it out? I've already tried pounding it through and that isn't seeming to work. Also, its hollow all the way through which also makes me think it doesn't screw out. Thanx. Lata.

 

What you are referring to is called a 'spring roll pin' It is essentially a hollow pin formed in such a way as to 'spring' out against the sides of the hole, using friction to hold it in place. Basically, you need to hammer it out. Ideally, you will be using a drift punch that is only a few thousandths of an inch smaller than the diameter of the hole. They can be stubborn, especially if they have been there a while, but it should come out with a little 'convincing' with a hammer. Sometimes an air hammer does wonders to jar it loose, if you have access to one. It also helps if you have a helper hold something fairly heavy & solid (preferrably metal) against the back side of the yolk where the pin goes, making sure there is clearance so the pin can travel out the back side without hitting it.
