I need a valve adjustment tool for my Raptor, where can I get one? I remember a discussion on this topic a few months ago, but I couldn't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated... (If I remember right, the size nut-adjuster on the valve is ~3mm).

Thanks for the help.

There is no special tool for adjusting valves. Getting to the adjuster is fun. Once there, I think the adjuster lock nut takes 10mm wrench. Set to spec (something like .004 in and .006 ex) and close her up.

Motion Pro sells a set that works on the Raptor as well as many other bikes/quads.

Raptech,
I've had the head caps off to where I could adjust the valves, but, it takes a little ~4mm? wrench... 10mm... that is huge... I don't think that you adjusted your vavles, dude... hehe...

Noturaptor,
Thanks for the info!

I have a Warrior. When I adjusted my valves the wrench that fit the best was a 5/32" The locknut was probably a 10 mm.

It is an inverted torx socket, size E5. I got mine from Snap-On.

Once you've loosened the lock nut with 10mm wrench, the adjuster should turn with your finger. If not, then that valve has no clearance or the threads are screwed up. You don't need a special (4mm?) tool. If you want to force it, use a needle nose or tiny adjustable but you shouldn't have to force it. Unscrew it, put a feeler gauge under and finger tighten then tighten the lock nut making sure the adjuster doesn't turn.

Been there and done that so many times on so many engines that I don't even use a feeler gauge anymore.

I purchased an E5 from Snap-On too. It's too big. I ended up using a small Snap-On adjustable wrench. I picked up an E4 to try next time. RapTech's procedure is spot on, only I would add double check the clearance after you've tightened it up. Sometimes the clearance changes as you are tightening it because of the limited working space. Also, Yamaha's spec for re-tightening the 10mm locknut is only 14Nm, or 10 ft-lbs. Be careful not to over do it and strip something.

Thanks for the info on the E5. I have not tried mine yet. Let me know if the E4 works out. Maybe I can exchange it.
