Changing brake pads,is it a pain?
#2
It's really easy. Sould take about fifteen minutes a set. It's self explanitory once you get the caliper off. Push the cup in with a C clamp. Install new pads. Put caliper back on, go riding. The fronts have a hex head adjuster, so you can set them to your liking.

You are right Tim1...I dont use my brakes at all, unless I really need them. I save money on brake pads, you too probably.
Tim1 How many miles is on your Sportsman??, how long have you had the old sets of brake pads on??...What else have you had to replace since you bought it??, I might be looking for a used Sportsman 500 about the same year as yours....'96-98.

I bought the bike and plow for it in the summer of 98. I have 2500 miles on it. This will be my 3rd set of brakes my last set lasted quite a while, they were a aftermarket brand (IRC) I think they were called, but my dealer said he can not get them any longer. I had to change the front rack ,speedo and head light pod once after rolling it end over end down a hill ,other than that I have done nothing. One thing I do alot though is grease it,every second ride if its very wet and every 5th ride on normal trails. Its a must to get the mud and water out of the joins and bushings.
I found this Canadian online parts dealer royal It's parts are way cheaper than my dealer's.
How much do they want for the Sportsman?

Yeah I knew about Royal Distributing, there are 2 in Ontario I live near the Guelph location, it's about an hour away. I have never been there. Your Sportsman seems tough, you havent had to replace much...I mean, I've heard alot of bad things about other peoples Sportsmans......maybe the Canadian ones are better

I put some of the severe duty pads on awhile back and they seem to be holding up pretty well, My only complaint is the squeaking from the fronts, Other than that they have been a good buy and an easy install
