My friend Jeff just received his brand new Silver [limited edition]660 Grizz.I met up with him today at our local riding area.Until today,I only test rode the new Grizz in the dealership parking lot.I never was able to run any faster than 20mph and that was on nothing more than a blacktop parking lot.

Today,I was hoping he would offer me a chance to ride it,he did.My first impression taking the beast off rode was astounding. After being the owner of the best casual trail riding 500cc Sportsman, and now riding the new Grizz, this ATV rides every bit as good as the Sportsman, perhaps even better? It just SOAKED up every bump I hit and left me very suprized. It did NOT bottom out the front shocks on hard hitting whoops like the Macpearson struts do on the Sportsman. The steering was light and tight with precision accuracy [no steering play].

I did not feel the powerband hit real hard until around 1/4 throttle. It's than that you can really feel the 660's powerband. Now this is a engine with only 3hrs on it and it really felt strong. Its going to be a good race this upcoming week when I get Jeff and his new Grizz on a wide open rode.I'll drag race him with my slightly modded Xplorer.Should be a close one?

Jeff was much harder on his OWN quad than I was with it.I watched Jeff go swimming with his Grizz,it did NOT sputter once.Jeff had to pull me and my Lakota out of the mud.The winch worked great to.No signs of belt slipage at ANY time.Jeff did say that the 20mph 4x4 speed limiter has got to go!He used the locker 4x4 and he said he did NOT like the speed limiter for the situation he had encountered. He will be bypassing this very soon.

In closing,I'll say that after owning the Sportsman 500cc 4x4 and now having the oportunity to ride the new Grizz 660,im VERY impressed with it and soon I hope to be buying one in the future? You all know how I feel about a heavy ATV?So with the Grizz weighing in at 600lbs and the new 700cc Sportsman weighing in at 740 lbs, there is no use in me trying to make a comparison between the two ATVs.

Some of you's will wonder WHY I posted this in the Polaris Forum and not the Yamaha?

No offense here, just glad to hear an honest review.
Now if we could get a direct comparason to a HO or the new 700, with drivers switching rides, and both their impressions, I would like to see that.

Farmr

PS Why can't you post it here, you drive a Polaris??

cool, good to hear an even comparison. I think the end is near for the mcpherson strut's monopoly on polaris quads. They'll keep offering them, but we'll see some A-Arm/conventional shock front suspensions on a new sport quad. Maybe after that quad they'll make less mcpherson struted quads... maybe...

This is very interesting to me. AndyBassham has went so far as to call the Grizz's rear IRS "A Joke"(as compared to the 500 H.O.?). And now someone says it's better. This just goes to show how much two very honest opinions can differ and further more shows the need for ones own personal experience and not that of anothers. I personally think my 325 Polaris with a swing arm rear rides like a dream! I guess I'm easy to please!

The Silver Grizz Bill rode belongs to me. It is a totaly new experience for me. As you see below I also have two Trail Blazers. I really like a sporty feel and the Trail Blazers have been trouble free and great rides. Wanted another utility to replace a recently sold Honda. I'm surprized he didn't mention the jumping. This Grizz gets a lot of air and lands much softer than my Trail Blazers. As far as the Silver paint goes, after a little follow the leader we ran through the brush. When I washed it there were no scratches showing black plastic. Only light surface marks. (maybe the mud protected it)The finish is surprizingly durable. When it comes down to it a 683cc sp700 vs. 660cc 660Grizz is not that much different. I just wanted the split braking, locker and gas gauge.

Whats this about a 500 bottoming out? I have jumped mine well over 4 feet and it has no signs at all of bottoming out. Oh well happy riding.

hey i dont have anything against mcpherson either. i traded a 99 sportsman for a 650 prairie which both have mcpherson. i have never bottomed out on either one, on jumps over 4 ft. and i weight 220lb. i do wish the track wideth on the new grizz is as wide as the sportsman or i might have got one.

Yah,
I think its just going to come down to which ATV you personally like more.Like Jeff said, the new Sportsman and the new Grizz are probably going to be two very close ATVs in many area's,its going to come down to personal preferance?I have not rode the new 700 yet and I dont care if I do,because I have no personal interest in a 740lb ATV,buts thats me,others can and may differ in their choice.

Now im a little confused about those of you who claim that you jumped your Sportsmans 4 ft without bottoming out the front shocks.I also have a 00 Xplorer 4x4 and though it does not bottom out the front shocks as easily as the Sportsman did, there is NO WAY I could jump 4ft with it without the front shocks bottoming out,in fact, two ft of air would be asking alot from either ATV.Yes,I was also very suprized at the jumping ability from the new 660,I just forgot to mention that. All in All,I did NOT expect the new Grizz to ride/handle as well as it did. What a very nice ATV!I cant own one quick enough.
