I just bought an 88 R and was wondering where i could get pic's of it stock. Also do they have a key(i'm guessing no). Also what kind of kill switch do they come w/stock cuz i need one. What 2-stroke oil do u use i have heard maxima 927. also how do you put like what quads you have at the bottom of your post??

 

yes, they came with a key stock. You can probably get one from Servicehonda.com. the stock kill switch is just that, a switch with headlight switches on the handlebars. I run Yamalube in my R, and would suggest you use a good, synthetic 2 stroke oil instead of a bean oil like 927, which burns very dirty.

so i can get a stock kill switch and key from service honda. they have an aftermarket one on it but i dont like it and i wanna get back close to stock they also took the headlight off and i need a parking brake for my handlebar too

 

Dude you do not want the parking brake ! on all hondas (true sport models) the parking brake does not work worth $hit and they wear out your brakes real fast.

BTW how sis they take off the light, did they just rip it out of the plastic or change the hood ?

 

They had different plastic on it. I want the stock plastic though. they had wrecked it and tore up the kill switch and crap so now i need to buy another one and they dindt have stock handlebars either. So i got some stuff to buy to get it back to stock. How fasst is a stocker? this one has fmf fatty/silencer, unifilter, and has been bored to some extent not sure how much. would it be competitive w/my friends piped and jetted banshee?? j/w

 

Well it might be competitive but he will still beat you, unless your a better rider. the stocker will go around 70mph BTW I got a set of stock handle bars in awesome shape on mine, but I am getting a set of aftermarket bars for looks and to help my jumping skill.

corman, congrast on the new machine I got my "86 about 6 months ago and I'm currently I'm the process of restoring it. Like Dill said eariler, use Yamalude R2 two-stroke oil, I believe as do many racers that it is the best thing out there.
As for things I would do, take a look at the carb, if it's original and dripping gas out of the over-flow, replace it, don't waste your time on float valves and jets. This is a common problem with Rs because of the age. I learned it the hard way, it makes low-end jetting immposible.
Also look at the a-arm dust boot covers for cracks and tears.
As for the plastic, I am at the final stages of restoration and after looking around the best deal on original plastics is service honda. Their prices are increadible. You are going to be looking at about $340 for the entire front end plastic, this is including the hood, grill and all the mounting bolts. As for the rear I believe it goes for about $170.
Personally I love the 86-87 red, white and blue color scheme of the R with the factory decals, it is just so American!
BTW according to some old mags I have the stock R should be good for 70-74 depending on elevation and rider weight.
