Ordered +6 swingarm, now to get the chain
#1
I own a 99 Banshee and just bought a =6 swingarm and 120 link chain(the chain will need to be cut)Do I measure the chain length with the axle moved all the way forward, backward, or somewhere in the middle. I am currently running a 12 tooth fron sprocket, with the stock sprockeet in the rear. I want to be able to still go from a 12 to a 14(possibly 15) with the same chain, as I can now with the stock chain. Please advise, i dont want to screw up a $100 dollar chain!. Thanks

However you measure it you want to make sure you have enough linkage left to make any tension adjustments and possibly accomodate a small sprocket change.
Bring it up to Eric's on Friday evening and we'll help. As he told you it doesn't look like I will make this upcomming trip. I tore my bike down again, to the frame and will be having it powdercoated with a few smaller parts chromed. I'm heading up there after work Friday do to some more grinding on the frame.
You said you were in Gilbert now? I'm in Tempe and will be leaving that way around 3pm if you want to meet somewhere.

if you plan on running more gear, set your chain up in the front, that way you can loosen up to accomidate the larger gears.
What we do is rather then fooling with it too much, get yourself a master link and a spare link and if you need more slack just add the extra link

Your are going to be pretty close to the correct length with the 120 links on a +6 swing arm with the stock sprockets. I'm running a +2 with 14/43 gearing and I had to add 6-8 links compared to the stock chain. What kind of chain are you getting? I have a DID X-ring gold ATV chain. It cost me 60 dollars at Alba.

I just did a 6 in swingarm swap on my shee. You will want to go all the forward with the tension adjustment. Cut the chain loose. It should be some where in the middle when you get it adjusted. That should leave you with enough room for sprocket change or tension adjustment.
