I have heard alot of diffent thing out if nitro is good on a DS or not?
I heard that you can get 5-15 H.P. from it but at 15 the relibility really
suffers is that true? What would you get more power from an aftermarket exasht system or nitro. Is it worth the money? Can you refil the tank? How
long does a tank last? If anyone knows alot about nitris oxide please give me some info.
Thanx

I tried NOS on my DS this weekend for the first time at Sand Mtn. NV,I went with small Nitrous jets 014 x 2 and 020 gas x 2.Well on the first run I hit the switch midway up the hill, the power came on quick(front-end felt scary light)but after 3 to 4 seconds it would lose power, I tried this about 4 times up the hill with the same result(also for some reason my DS felt like the rear end was fishtailing real bad)
Well went back to camp, there I realized I had developed a flat on a rear tire(explains the fishtailing, filled it up and it held fine)I checked the bottle pressure(900lbs)it was fine, but put a new one on anyways, checked all the jets for blockage(good there,& bumped one NOS jet to a 018)Also checked the plugs(looked fine)
So I hit the hill again, this time the nitrous came on and power did not drop off(seemed to work fine)I did notice that the DS liked the nitrous at lower RPMS(at higher RPMs it tends to sputter a little, could be the result of the RW cdi advancing the timing)
Well I got 3 good runs in thinking I was ready to bump up in jet size and then hole system stopped working..........DAMM! I was just starting to have fun. As it turns out I lost my relay, must have fell off coming down the hill (looked for it for a while, couldnt find it)
I could have bypassed the relay but then would have no way to turn it off, and also it would have been to dangerous having the NOS come on take offs(would flip me over instantly)So needless to say I spent the rest of the day with out my bottle(could have used a pacifier hehehe)
Well I look forward to my next trip, hopfully with an extended swing arm

On your questions
I am not sure about actual HP gains, but I think its higher than 15hp.
On the reliability, any time you increase HP I think you lose a little reliability pay about $3.00 a lb for refills locally. Not sure yet on how long a bottle lasts, because I never got the chance to empty one (I have 2-2lb bottles and 1-2 1/2 bottle)

Speed guns clocked me at 57 Mph with NOS and 50 Mph without NOS up comp hill,I think with bigger jets I can gain quite a bit more.

Congradulations on the success of the nitrous test Jeff. I think it is safe to say that you currently have the fastest DS in the country at this time. The 760 had you running with the turbos, now the nitrous has you over the top. I'm staying on top of your swing arm, I haven't forgoten it. I know the fabricator was working on it this weekend.

I've run N2O on my DS and loved it! I didn't try the 15hp jets I went straight to the 25hp shot - just wanted to feel the rush -NX claims that their systems run within 2% of their stated power levels, if that's true I was running in the 65-70hp range and it was a total rush
when the juice came on. I was beating the alcohol burning shees badly
and talk about feeling good! I did have a few problems with my set up that I hope have been resolved
1. do not run a cdi that has a rev limiter.
2. ensure you have adequate air flow into the gas tank so it does not turn into a vacum
3. run cooler plugs than stock ie. DR9EA ( Jeff ran em this weekend)
4. Make sure everything is bolted down , including relays!-sorrry Jeff

Q. How long will a bottle of nitrous last?

A. That depends on the level of power being produced.
The formula for calculating your nitrous usage is: .8 lbs
N2O X 10 seconds = 100 horsepower. I.E. If your system
is jetted for 100 horsepower it will use .8 lbs of nitrous for
every 10 seconds of usage.

I'm running with 5lb bottles that fit very nicely under the seat with the 25hp jets I should be getting about 4 mins/bottle thats good for quite a few races. I will be trying the 35hp jets next time I'm at the dunes -I don't feel it would be prudent to run the 50hp and I don't think I could keep the bike right side up in the 90-100hp range. I'm paying around $3.50/lb out here in Utah. Do I think it's worth the money? to me personally it is. I like to be able to sneak into a crowd of banshees racing up a hill and whoop em all! I'm not trying for the fastest bike around and expect to still get beat by guys that have more $ in their machines it's all for fun and don't want to compromise on the DS ability to be an all around kinda bike.

I'd like to run against Jeff's DS. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the 90 ft-lb range for torque at very high boost an on alcohol. I had to upgrade the clutch to hold the power. If Jeff could make it to quadzillathon and I get the turbo back this week, I might consider the trip...

What do you think Jeff?, a show down, turbo and methanol vursus 760CC's and nitrous. You wanted to check out Dumont anyway, didn't you? If Scooby has his extended swing arm, I'll throw mine on your bike, if I don't have yours done befor then. I'm sort of excited about this prospect!

When will you find out if your turbo will be done in time Scooby? I'll do what I can to help either of you make this happen.

It's scary to think that my quad would be left far behind both of you, but it would be worth checking out.

Are you sure she wouldn't be too keen on it? Your wife is a pretty understanding woman.

I'm just giving you a hard time, too bad it won't happen. I need to build my motor like yours one of these days, so I can handle the really big boys myself. I'm think that the turbo might beat mine, if it stayed running properly. But on the other hand, I need to keep mine close to the base level 760 so customers know what perfomance they can get at the base level.

If you want to make the trip Scooby, I'll be there. Yours and mine might be a much closer race, and you could come out on top of that one.

wow jeff, sounds like you hauled @ss up sand mountain this weekend. Hope you get it all running right. When is the next time you are going out to sand mountain? If there isnt enough snow during thanksgiving we will be going out to sand mountain for fri-sun right after turkey day. That show down between those DS's would be awesome. Or how about u both come out to glamis jan 5-12 with me and a few others. damn, 57mph is pretty good up sand mountain, what did that guy u were with that had those nitros street bike motors run up sand mountain?
