425magnum is now running
#1
I finally got my 425 running last night. It would bog
down from 1/2 throttle to full throttle. I cleaned the
air filter, twice I tore down the carb to clean it,
still had problem. I was working on it Tuesday, thinking
the gas tank vent was clocked. I rode it around for
awhile with the "snorkel" and sock pre-filter removed.
It ran great, problem solved. So I put the pre-filter
back on, and the problem reapeared. Remove the pre-filter
again and it ran great. So I cleaned the pre-filter, put
it back on and still ran bad. I would remove and install
it again and the problem would go away come back as I
removed/intalled the pre-filter. So I then remove the
main filter and blow it out, bounce it on the floor. This
baby is now super clean, installed it, put the pre-cleaner
back on, fired it up, still has problem. So I now go buy
a new filter from dealer, install it and the pre-filter,
fire it up and this baby never ran better.
I never would have thought that a clean looking filter
would cause such a Problem. So I guess those filters
do a good job of filtering micro sizes of dirt, but do
get clogged really good.
thanks

Sometimes if you have a paper filter, and you get it wet, say washing it or what have you, it will have a tendency to run just like your filter was 30 years old. What happens is, the pores in the paper, that let air through, close up when you get it when, letting no air in. Foam is the way to go.

Well, it's no speed demon, but it is a good workhorse. It does
pretty good on the trails but its a better utillity bike. I used mine
to pull a plow on a one acre lot, getting it ready to lay down some
sod grass. It work real hard, never got hot.
At times I wish I would have gone ahead and bought a 4 wheel drive.
