Yes...what were you looking to find out?

It's a nice bike. Plenty of power and light enough to do a bit of motocross if needed. I would go with the yz426 though, if motocross and large displacement are your thing.

Starting the bike can be tempermental...depending on how you dropped it..etc.

The suspension works very well in stock form.

I had a 2000 YZ426. Loved it. Will probably buy another in the spring. That motor is incredible. Power everywhere. ~47-49hp out of the crate.

The WR is geared higher, but has the same basic motor. I think it is more mellow than the YZ. I think it is carbed differently, and I know the geometry of the machine is different. But it still rocks.

The Raptor will keep me busy during the winter. I originally had the 400EX and then bought the YZ. I couldn't ride the 400EX anymore. It felt like a toy compared to the power/weight ratio of the YZ.

The Raptor is much better, and after adding the exhaust kit, it has a better feeling.

But the YZ is where you really get a rush....

You need one. I need one. January 2002 Motorcross Action magazine grades it (the YZ426F) as an A+. I quote "Oh sure, we thought it was the best four stroke made, but since it had very little competition, that didn't carry all that much weight. Now that the CRF450 (Honda's new bike) has arrived, every MXA test rider was amazed to discover that the venerable YZ426F is more powerful, better suspended, and sharper handling than its competition." The WR is geared higher, has more weight on the flywheel, a different seat/tank configuration, a lighting coil and some other little odds & ends, but it is still the same awesome bike.

I been saving my pennies as well, I wanted the older yz400 when it came out 3 yrs ago.

yz426- More mx oriented. high strung, Does have a High rev powerband.
wr426- more trail and cross country oriented. Gears more spaced out.

Nothing like watching a dad put real slow for hours following his kid on a SMALL bike
with training wheels.
And within a flip of the wrist lauches off a wicked jump, Pulls a wheelie and dissappears in the distance. Me with my jaw dropped, Saying I WANT ONE!!

I was sold after that.

** I CAN DREEM ** Someday I'll have one.
My raptor just bled me dry. So, Next year... oR ???!!!
ANYBODY WANNA BUY MY TTR???? had to try!!

The reason I was asking about the 426 is the dealer around here only sold one WR426 last year. I guess the dealer works on allocation. The more he sells of these bike the more Yamaha will allow him to have in stock. He offered a good deal on the trade for my raptor. He said if I hold the Raptor till March, he can make the deal even sweeter. I'd like to have the Raptor and WR but, I don't think the wife will go for that. Heavy ( dont understand why a kick start bike is about 25 pounds heavier than one with Electric start KTM 400 EXC), hard to start, especially hot.. Not in the same league as the Euros .
Power wise, fast, but lacking in low end for a large 4-stroke, not the best for woods, better in wide open spaces.
suspension, stiff initially, responds better the faster its ridden.
