Well I am pondering Selling my 250R to get a Rancher. Heres my questions.

How are they in the mud ?
Whats there top speed ?
How is it for trail riding ?
If I were to put some 27" mudders on it would it be gutless ?
MY limit is $3500 so I obviously cant buy a new one can I get a good one for $3500 or less ?
If you have one tell me what you like and dislike about them.

Thansk guys, KILLER

(no disrespect intended..)

Looks to me like you already have a 4X4 to play with.
Why get rid of the R???? Just lookin for something different or what?

BUT, If I were to get a 4X quad, the Rancher would be my choice.

Rancher's are pretty good in the mud with decent skins

Top speed is between 52 and 55

Excellent for trailriding.

With 27's you'll need a lift. It will turn them until you get to pretty nasty mud. Go with 25's or maybe a light 26 like the mudbugs

You'll have a hard time finding a nice 4x4 for 3500 but i'm sure they are out there.

get a rancher. not as fast or nimble as the r but a blast to ride!

i have a rancher with 27 mudbugs and the ITP magnum billets on it. it turns them fine, sometimes in second. but it all depends on how thick or deep the mud is. although i have had it to where it wouldnt even turn them in 1st gear! but thats nasty stuff you rarely get into . Oh and i am pretty light at like 135 pounds, so that has another effect on it

the rancher is a pretty good machine. i have 27" 589's(11" in back and 9" in front). other than the tires she's still stock. my rancher goes through mud better that my brothers foreman 450 w/ 27" x 12" blackwaters. trail riding is ok i guess, i like making my own trails while i'm out riding. i'm not into speed but she can take off pretty quick on flat stuff and i occassionally need to down shift if i'm going up steep hills. with those 589's i lost some power in the hill climbing section. most of the riding i do is creeping around in mud and water and travling mountain areas. i still am thinking about getting a power kit but am not sure if i need to or not. i guess i'm afraid if i get a power kit that it will somehow destroy my machine. later - dana
oh yea, i have the electronic shift system, i love shifting with out feet, it makes for really dry riding in water

I just bought a used 2000 Rancher S 350 4x4 in very good shape for $3300 so they are out there (could use tires and the switch for the winch is broke).

I have not used it much but it gos good on the trails and will get up to speed fairly quickly. Im wondering how they plow as I would like to get a Moose plow for it.

Good luck on your search

Killer250r,
I just wish you would get something new and improved.
Get the Rancher and then explain the benifits of owning the Rancher to your grandfather.
