need advice on what this used banshee is worth

How much is a '98 banshee with bad rings, but otherwise good condition worth? How much do a new set of rings, installed cost. If I fix the rings how much will I be able to trade the banshee in for on a raptor?
Any comments are greatly appreciated. I have about a little over a week or so to decide whether to buy this, but I need advice on how much it is worth.
Thanks again,
Darin

hard to say- banshees seem to be all over as far as price. how do you know the rings are bad?- if it is just the rings then you may as well put pistons in it.
i've seen 98's with pipes for 3800 (WI and MI) and ive seen 92's with pipes for 5000. i think if you posted more info such as condition of plastic and if there have been other mods then we could help you .
go to your dealer and look at used quads and base your decision from there. if you are looking to buy it and trade it in i advise against it. unless you get a smokin deal on the 'shee. i have tried this route several times and it always seemed to be easier to walk in with cash to put down on the new ride.
if you can buy the 'shee and sell it out right you might do ok. how much does the seller want? alot depends on the motor. do not just take his word that it is just the rings. have it checked out by the dealer - 1hr of shop time is cheap compared to a complete motor rehabilitation. just my .02 worth

Banshee prices are VERY hard to determine. upracer is right though.. I have seen 2001's for $4,300 had 1994's for $4,500. Mine's right int he middle though... I think $3,500 would be a good price. I'm asking $4,250 for mine, but it has $3,000 in mods.

Upracer,
I just got back from looking at it and talking to the owner. The banshee is basically stock. He hasn't rode it for almost a year and has been trying to sell it for just as long. He wants a 4-wheel drive quad. The engine will have to be bored and new rings put in. Also the clutch is out. The plastic and the rest of the exterior are in very good condition. He is only asking $1300 for it because that is what he still owes on it and he doesn't want to pay insurance on it anymore. Is this a good deal if I have to rebuild the engine and possibly replace the clutch?
Also how much should the back axle move if you pick up the back end and shake the axle? I think the bearings might be out. Does anyone know how much it is to replace them?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Bearings are generaly around $50. What year is the Banshee? The clutch wont be that expensive if you put it in yourself you're looking at about another $20-50 and a $10 dollar gasket if it tears. For the top end boring out the cylinders will be around $80 since there's 2 of them. If you're lucky you might only need to get them honed out with generaly runs about $10 per cylinder. I'd bore it out and put new pistons and rings in it. If you put the top end back together youself it sould only run you about $170-200 to get the parts and the boring depending on where you go. Sounds like it's a good bike and just needs a little TLC. Don't quote me on the prices though it's just an guestimate.

LOL sorry my bad, I've got a RAD dual row bearing carrier. It's twice as much for me since I have 4 instead of 2. A set of bearings will run you about $25 or so. Thanks LSB. Buy the shee, for that little money on a '98 you can't go wrong. Most of all have fun on it once you get it in tip top shape.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice. I bought the banshee yesterday for $1400 and he threw in the stock rims. (Anyone want to buy some stock rims in good condition?) It is in the shop now getting the top end bored with new pistons and rings. I am also having the bearings replaced along with the clutch. Anyone have any advice on some cheap mods. I have a white bros. filter on the way.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
