#1
What chain are you guys running on your Raptors that dont break. Only got about 5hrs on my Raptor and the chain broke. YOu guys know of a chain that will take the power of this chain hungry beast? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Extra duty DID X ring.
If you are breaking chains, check to see that you are not going too tight on the chain when the suspension is bottomed out. On the Banshees, the chain roller was too low and (during long travel) the chain would bind against the roller and break. I suspect the Raptor has the same problem if you adjust the chain too tight.

I got tired of replacing chains and sprockets. Finally got a complete setup from Sidewinder. Check them out at www.sidewindersprockets.com

I second the recommendation to get a DID X-ring. Ultimate chain. Amazing things. You need to compare a brand new section (piece cut off from the original) and the chain a couple of years later off a CR250. Hasn't moved (stretched). Put it on, ride it for a week, adjust it once. That's it. Just keep it lubed.
The sidewinder setup is good, but expensive. The sprockets are bulletproof. But the way sprockets get really out of whack is when things are out of alignment or adjustment, or you ride in a harsh environment (gritty mud, etc..). If you have a good chain, the chain and your sprockets should last you years for recreational riding. If you are racing then you may need to do them each year.
The most frustrating thing is buying a brand new motocross bike (YZ426) and they put the cheapest chain on the machine. The thing comes out of the box, ready to race, and they put a toy around your rear wheel. And it puts out close to 50hp. The chain is an elastic band in a month.

I would go with the DID X ring. A friend with a 2002 broke his stock chain first time out at the dunes. I had a new Sidewinder stainless chain so we put it on and it broke on him the next week at a track. The stainless is supose to be super strength with 14,000lb tensile strenth but I an starting to get leary with Sidewinder. Others I know have not had good luck with their chains or sprockets on beefed up banshees and 250rs'. The 2002 has the same chain as the 2001, what gives? Does that new rear shock link change things that much. We checked and double checked the slack on that Stainless so That was not the problem unless you need a lot more slack due to more travel on the 2002 setup. The book calls for 1.2 to 1.6 inches of slack, any more and I would be worried.

I was in the same position a year ago... My decision was between a Renthal RS-3 520 O-Ring, or the Sidewinder. I went with the Renthal, and have been WELL pleased. After instillation a year ago, I have NEVER touched the chain adjustment on my Banshee. It is one helluva good chain. Sidewinder is using the Quadra-Max system now, which I understand is a very good setup. I dont think you could go wrong with either of these two chains.
mtecate4g, if I may.. I recommend you buy a case saver. It seems EVERY 2002 Raptor owner on this forum are breaking chains. A $30 chain will seem cheap when you are forced to buy a $300 case.. Trust me.
