I'm trying to get it off but the locking collar will not slide off the splines.I removed the snaprings and the splines look good. The collar will slide to the snapring groove then stop.

By c-clamp do you mean snap ring? I took every thing off its just the collar/locknut stuck on the axle.

well make sure that there is not a c clamp or snapring there on the axle.

move the collar back twards the swing arm and there might be a c clamp that is holding all of that on the axle. it is a ring that looks like a c

I got it out with a press. All it needed was some force.

it's common to have a slight edge there by the clip groove use a file and smooth it out . or emery cloth then it will be fine.
