Raptor reverse light blinking
#1
I was warming up my '02 raptor in the garage the other day, and after about 5 minutes, the reverse light started blinking on and off non stop. I shut it down, and restarted, and it went away. I did the same thing today, and it started blinking again. I put it in gear, and it stopped. I haven't read or heard of this before. Anyone know the cause?

xgzx,
I have a 2001 Raptor and it use to do that. If you go down by the front sprocket there is a wire with a connector on it, it is your reverse light and it also does the rev limiter. If it comes off it will not crank, it will start dieing out if it is loose. You need to go and pull it off and take some pliers then very carefully squeeze the clamp so it will snap back on the pin coming out of the motor below the sprocket.
Hope u get it fixed. If not reply.

There is no problem with it running, though. It runs great, and the light blinks at a constant rate of time, like its a computer controlled thing. Was yours an itermittent blinking, or was it a timed thing like mine? The only thing I can relate it to is the fact that it seems to start at about the time the radiator fan kicks in. I don't know if its related, but it is around the time it takes to get the temp up, but the temp light isn't on, and I know its not that hot. Warriorkiller, I will check that connection and let you know the outcome, thanks.

Did you guys ever figure this out? Last night I washed my quad and thought I got some water in the exhaust. Sure enough when I fired it up a mist shot out. I wound it up and held it at about a quarter throttle in to get the rest out and the reverse light started flashing. I looked in the owner’s manual but couldn’t find anything. Any one know?

It could be a bad ground. Especially if it come on when something else is turned on, or activated. Check all of your connections for security, and check all the wires for any chaffing, or wear. If it is doing it all the time, or if it can be induced, then it should be relatively easy to find.

It only came on when I was reving it up and holding it there at about a quarter throttle. It flashed on and off like it was supposed to do it. Not like it was a short or anything. It went on and off in increments of about a second each for about 5 seconds.

Yes, the factory put this option in to help trouble shoot the speed sensor. Raptors and Grizzlys have this feature...there was a factory service bulletin on it.
If the cdi does not see a signal(movement) from the speed sensor and the bike is in park or N and the rpm is >3000 for 10sec it will blink the R light in 1 sec intervals.
Reset by turning the key off
