I am looking for some aftermarket tires for my Rancher 4x4 and would like some advice. I want a tire that is gives really good traction in the mud and also gives a smooth ride on harder terrain. I have looked at a couple of options: Mudrunner, Gator, Blackwater, Mudbug,589 M/T and 589 M/S (which appear to be about the same tire), and the Dirt Devil.

I'm also thinking about the size being 25". If you have any advice on these tires or others, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Blackwaters are not good in mud compared to others.
589's are said to be rough on hardpack compared to Mudrunners. Two people on this forum have had both and said this.
For 25" Mudrunner won in mud according to a test done in August 2000. Go to www.atvnews.com and you'll find it.

I had Mudrunners on my 2001 Rancher ES 4x4 and I loved em. They rode great on hardpack, steered easy, and were great in mud and snow. I have 589's on my Rubicon and they ride alot rougher than the Mudrunners and they seem a lot heavier. I haven't tried them yet in mud and snow but they should do well. Overall, I wish I has stayed with Mudrunners eventhough they're a little more money.

i have the super swampers on my rancher but it's pretty rough. If I were you i would go with the 26 inch tires.

I'd go with a set of 25" Mudbugs myself. They are light and very reasonably priced for a good mud tire that is also good on trails. IMHO the Goodyear Mudrunners are way to expensive. Sure they are good tires that outperform some all out mud tires in the mud but they are just to expensive for me. personal opinion here
