2001 300 Bayou 4x4 oil leak
#1
I have come across an oil leak that I can't figure out...on the bottom of the cranckcase, there is a slot that is 1/4" x 1/2" that looks to be cast into the 2 halves of the case...oil is leaking from it...why?...does anyone know of a fix?...would any damage be caused in plugging this hole and allowing oil to enter this cavity?..any help on this would be greatly appreciated...thanks...Chris

Sounds like a gasket leak to me. You can go the www.buykawasaki.com website and view detailed diagrams of your engine to get a better idea. You might be able to control it by applying some type of compound until you are willing to spit the cases to replace it.
I could be wrong Chris but I suspect that slot is there to make it easier to split the cases to break open the crankcase. If so, filling it would not create a problem.
