i broke my kickstarter the first day i got it and i was wondering instead of buying another stock kickstarter could i get one of of a banshee or something? would that work?

any help is appreciated

 

Id say it would, I used one off of a KX125 on an RM80 for a long time... so i dont really see why that wouldnt work, unless the kickstarter bend didnt allow for it to work correctly, or the splines on the kickshaft are different than that of a Tecates... try a KX 250 kickstarter (same year as your tecate) - they're the same motor afterall.

I think that sucks about Kawi kickstarters breaking. I have broken kickstarters on a 96 and a 97 KX500 (ever tried to push start a KX500?), and I have broken the kickstarter shaft on a 99 and 00 KX250. Basically the last 4 Kawis I have owned have broken the kickstarters in one way or another. I have two friends that have done the same - 1 98 KX250 and 1 96 KX250. It is getting old and it costs about $250 a pop to get the shaft fixed.

I know this post didn't help you - I just had to vent when I heard it is happening to the older Kawis too. I think that is total BS - I never hear the Honda guys talking about breaking kickstarters.

 

hey dont worry about the venting thing..i just welded mine were it broke at but now it wont swivel which is a pain in the butt. it hits your leg all the time.

i just want to know if any one has down this before. thank

 

A friend of mine has a little brother with a KX 60 and the kick starter broke on it too! It must be a Kawi problem because I don't think a 7 or 8 year old (can't remember how old he is) can kick it so hard that it will break. my mojave's kickstarter broke,, & my tecates was gettin loose when i sold it,, gotta be kawi problems

 

sorry no pics. not yet anyways..i got the tecate that was on ebay the one with the 300 big bore kit..i can give you the ebay page that had pics on it but other than that i cant help you.

and yeah it is a kawasaki problem..but does any one know is a 250r or lt250r or a banshee kick starter would work on it?

I currently own 2 Tecate-4's, and have had other Kawi's in the past and have NEVER had a problem with breaking kickstarters. (now, having said that, I can almost hear the sound of mine snapping the next time I try to start it!) I think you guys need to figure out what you're doing wrong to be snapping kickstarters that easily.

As far as how to fix Nemisis' problem, all I can say is you'll have to try 'em on and see if they work. And watch e-bay. I've seen miscellaneous Tecate shifters, brake pedals, and kickstarters from time to time.
