Cold Weather Grizz Problems
#1
Hey guys,
I decided I wanted to take the Grizz out for a ride on the ice. It hadn't been started in awhile, and wouldn't start. I tried about half choke, no go, Cranked and cranked untill the battery died. It ended up getting flooded. I did get it started by holding the throttle wide open, and pull starting it (what a pain!) I thought this was beacause it sat for awhile, but I let sit over night. Same story. Anyone else having trouble starting there grizz? Can anyone give me any tips? Thanks!

I had the same scenario a month or so ago. It wasn't too cold, but it had sat for a while, and would not start. I didn't keep trying until the battery die, though, I did pull the sparkplug and it was the foulest thing I'd every seen. So I grabbed a new plug and boom, first shot, as usual. Maybe you should try a new plug.
Happy New Year!

Guys, Some quads have a heater on the carb. The AC I have does. If I leave the key on for about 30 seconds before I start it in cold weather it usaully starts easier. I am not sure if Yamaha has this feature on the Grizz but I will look in to it.

I came to pick my 660 at Yamaha dealership and it did not start either. They kept it over night and fixed it,BUT a service manager I was dealing with was on vacation when I came second time I will talk to him on Wednesday/he mentioned some switches being open/and let you know what he said. This is going to be another Grizz's standart trouble.I could not start it yesterday either,THEN I squized a left brake hard few times and it started......./Gas gauge is not working now, this machine is a pain.......but I like it anyway, just moving it from dealership to dealership and back again and again/. But improvement is made,so I can't complain too much.

i have never had a problem starting mine, even after letting it sit for about 3 weeks in 10 degree weather. the way i start it is rather easy too. i give it full choke after turning the key. then i let it crank, but NEVER touch the throttle. even after it starts, i wont give it gas for about 1 minute. it may stall 1 or 2 times, but i just keep recranking it till it restarts, never touching the gas. hope it helps out. i think this quad has it all!!! it even jumps real well, and handles the landing smoother than any quad i ever rode.

Having the same problem with my Big Bear. Was able to start it the other day by holding the throttle wide open but that didn't work Saturday morning. It started on the first hit but then died right before I backed out of the garage. I think there was fuel left over from the last ride a few days earlier so I feel like it's a fuel delivery problem. I was getting good spark but no ignition.

mich660griz,
i was just wondering if you ever had to use your re-coil back-up for starting your grizzly?
i am very close to buying my next quad and it's between the sp700 OR 660.
i know everyone comments on the weight issue, but what really kills me is the lack of a back-up recoil!
what do you think?
