400EX VS. Z400
#1
want a quad for this spring I live in Denver so mostly riding in the front range and a few MX tracks here in town. Called a suzuki dealer and he said I could put 500$ down and get the first Z400 sometime in april. Should I buy the 400EX or wait for the Z400, being so indecisive I would like some opinions.

I would go ahead and get it, there cant be that many bugs w/ it, it is on a dirtbike already, and they changed what the compression and cam and maybe one of two other things, I'm sure they will do better about warrenties than yamaha does, even though the raptor was sort of like this situation, the MZ motorcycle the motor came off of, wasnt exactly used in offroad conditions, so i got confidence in the new Z400.

How can anyone possibly say that the Suzuki is a better bike than the Honda when no one has even seen or ridden one yet? I agree it looks good on paper and I hope it is as good as they say it will be, but until its out...who knows. The 400EX can run with anything on the MX tracks and cross country trails. I agree that if you can get your money back then go ahead and put it down and see how the first ride reviews come back.

well, we're sure it will be faster and more powerful, that's probably what he was talking about by saying it will be better, and it looks like it would be tall like the raptor, so it probably wont handle as good as a honda, but it may be as reliable.

The stats are identical to the 400ex in every way within 1/2 inch. Can Suzuki make a mistake w/ a 1/2 differenc here and there, Absolutley! Did they though, I doubt it. It will for sure be faster and might even challenge a stock Raptor in power. The sea of red is slowly gonna go yellow this year. Not sad, but true. Now who's the next manufacturer to change the red/yellow sea. I expect ATK to step to the plate in a year or two along w/ the preproduction rights from huskaberg they bought a year ago on their quad.

QuadMXer makes a very good statement. We won't know until we get our hands on one. Until then all we can do is speculate. I have a '99 400ex and it's never let me down. The handling is first rate but the stock power is lacking. The aftermarket can take care of that though. The biggest reason I'm getting a new Suzuki is because it's liquid cooled. Air cooled motors are old news. You have a much more reliable powerplant when you pump up the motor. Heat is a motor's biggest enemy. To me it's a no brainer. What I do like about the Suzuki is the placement of the radiator, DOHC, coated cylinder, seat height, and the frame looks to have very good geometry. The chain adjustment looks to be a joke though. I race mx and ride in the dunes mostly, and I'm banking on this quad to fit the bill. I'm very eager to get my new Suzuki.
