has this ever been atempted ? what would be the pros and con's ?
Ive got the motor out of my 2002 raptor getting the 686 kit installed . the Idea has crossed my mind to build this quad !! my wife does not like the idea ..lol ..to bad ..... I think I can make this happen ...I have the fabing skills to do this . with the 686 kit I think this quad will fly .. and probly be able to pull a higher gear ... the cooling system seems to be the biggest consern to me at this time ... the bad part is I would then install the ex motor in the raptor ...well its just a thought ..not a reality (yet) lol

cool idea, I always liked the way my 400ex handled compared to my raptor, but it was just too slow (one of my buddies just blew up his motor trying to keep up with us raptors). not sure if the motor would fit in the frame though, but I think it would make a great machine lots--->lots of work though to make that happen

The reason the raptor handles the way it does is its over powered. you wont gain anything by putting the motor in an ex frame. I have rode a buddies 500ex and it was just like a raptor. He had to add a swing arm a arms and the whole works to keep the thing handling well. If i was you i would just keep it in the raptor and add a arms and a swing arm.

Your quad would probably handle worse if you tried to put the 660 engine in an EX frame. Yamaha had its shiznit together when it came to the frame layout on the Raptor. It is about as space saving and efficient as you could get.
Like someone else said, you will just have the same quirks as a heavily modded 400EX. You might as well just invest in extended swing-arm/a-arms and get aftermarket shocks. Aftermarket shocks alone make a huge difference in Raptor handling. That and different rear tires.

me and one of my friends were talking about that, he wanted a fourwheeler that was off the hook, and we found a rolling chassis with lots of extras, and a raptor motor w/ everything to make it run, but we decided it would prolly not even fit in the frame being such a tall motor, then he decided he didnt want one anymore, and just said not to worry about it. But I like the idea of it. I think the raptor frame is a good frame for the motor, other than the fact that it's so tall in the middle, but that goes back to the tall motor.

<< Personally I would just mod the raptor (a-arms shocks.......). I don't think a exs frame would hold up. They barely hold up to a 400 motor. Maybe a aftermarket 250r frame. Nope I would just mod the raptor >>
What exactly do you mean the EX frame barely holds up to the 400 motor?
my 99' 400 is solid as a rock, as was my 01' 400EX.
Im not getting what your 'saying'.
