I was cleaning the air filter the other day and disconnected this hose. I took a look inside the hose and it was coated with dirt. Does anybody know why Yamaha didn't put some kind of inline filter on this line? It leads directly to the crankcase and I'm sure dirt is getting in there. Why didn't there put this behind the filter?

many of us who remove the snorkle from the airbox just put a small crankcase breather filter on the end of this tube. You can find something that will fit in any auto shop around $2. that breather tube should pulse (not just draw air in) which could get a bit of junk into your crankcase, K&N also makes a filter for just that application, looks better but costs more

should there be any concern about getting a little dirt in there? I assume that when you change the oil it will flush it out.

that particular tube should always be dry, you might want to clean it out and keep an eye on it. other than a bit of dust mine usually looks pretty clear, oil should not normally work its way up to your airfilter

What if you were working on it by standing it up on end. I just thought about this because I put some new skids on and stood it up. You may get a little oil up there won't you? What the condition looked like was a thin coating of dirt all around the inside of the tube that looked a little wet. It wasn't blocked by no means but it just doesn't look to be good.

I had to stand mine up for the GYT-R skid also, no problems. so long as you dont have lots of oil and junk in there you should be good to go. just keep an eye on it

Hey speaking of skids, do you have to take your off everytime you change the oil? I have the PRM and there is a hole to allow the oil to drip through. I heard that even though there is a hole it gets pretty messy. I was thinking of modifying a small funnel to catch the oil and get it down through the hole.

I tried to find a shortcut so I wouldnt have to pull the skid off, but couldnt find anything that worked the GYT-R skid has a hole for the oil to run out but it still gets everywhere. the only answer is: powertools, I can unscrew the plate in about 2 minutes

I make a little tin foil 1/2-funnel to direct the oil. Stick it up through the hole in the skid and flare the edges up by the drain plug.

Excellent Idea. What do you do about the messy oil filter?
