Aight look im gonna break it down.I need a new atv,but i aint got a lot of money to spend(i aint poor,im only 17).I was lookin at a 300ex or a 400ex.I shopped around and saw fst had a 380 or 390cc(somethin like that)kit for a 300ex.I could get the 300ex and the kit for what a 400ex cost.WOuld the 300ex be faster??How bout reliabilit(as reliable as 400ex)?

The 380 or 90 will definitly outrun the 400, just for the fact that it's a big bore. Also though, big bores will compromise reliability. They're known as time bombs....but only the really big bores will go bad....smaller one like a 330 will run good if you take care of it.

a 330 ex kit will eat a 400ex, as far as motors go, but you better plan on makin the suspension better to handle the power,, ESPECIALLY if you go to a 380 or 390 kit. you can find stock 400ex a-arms and swingarm for nothin,, really really cheap, they'll bolt up to the 300ex. then you just need shocks, so if you can look at about 150 bucks in a-arms and a swingarm, plus the price of better shocks, which you may find cheap, or may have to buy new aftermarkets (butt load of dough), on top of the engine kit and still come out cheaper than a 400ex, i say go for it! let us know what you decide.

Make sure though that the 300ex fits you. I'm 16 and 6'2", 170. I feel that it's too small for me, so make sure you feel comfortable on it.

Reverse? Why? its a sport quad. Reverse is just extra weight.

If he's asking about a 390 kit, then he's definitly going for the high performance. He's not gonna need reverse, if he does, just pick up the front end and swing it around, it aint heavy.

hondaman is right,, i carried my 300ex outa mudholes and everything else. i got it high centered, all you gotta do is pick it up,, it's light,, and a 400ex aint much heavier.

Actually despite the 400 being larger in every way, its 2 pounds lighter dry/stock.
Probably due too lots of lightweight aluminum, and ..............yep, no reverse.
