Interested in pipes and clutch kits for my 400 Scrambler. Difference in just changing springs as opposed to new helix and weights. Looking at FMF, AAEN, Hot Seat, HPD, RCR..... any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

With the RcR kit, all you change is the spring. He includes everything you need for $320. He does not try to sell you crap you and your machine don't need.

Hmmmm.. where to start... Just changing the primary spring Is going to change when your clutch engages.. Stiffer spring, higher rpm to engage. Also changes the shift rate. Makes the clutch shift at higher rpms.. The primary works something like putting a stall converter on a cars automatic transmission..
Weights affect when the clutch shifts also. Heavy weights force the chutch open sooner, like shifting up in gears faster..
Your helix is a ramp that the secondary clutch follows as it opens and closes, custom helixes are ground to follow your engines power curve.. All these things can chane how your chutch works, staying in low gear longer for mud runs or shifting up faster for drag racing.. Depends on what you are looking for..
God this is getting long winded...
Anyway... yes you can just change the primary...Like to a brown or orange spring, that will give you a better holeshot.. If you do any engine work, pipe, reeds, ect i would recomend a complete chutch kit.. And get the one made by whoever does the motor work.. I personally use HPD. But i hear great things about Ritter also..
Good luck, and i hope this helps more than confuses.. There are whole books written on this subject.. And if i screwed up, one of you more knowledgeable people in here please correct me!!!

Thanks for the information. You explained it in terms I could understand! I'm searching for the April issue of ATV Sport, so I can see their results with the RCR Mid-range kit. That's what I'm after. Probably gonna go with their kit, then maybe add a full clutch kit with secondary roller later. Thanks for all the input!!

I have met Rick Ritter before, his shop is about 10 minutes from my house. He does great work from what I hear and have seen on 3 400sports... I own a banshee but friends of mine own polaris sports and they run the rcr kit and had him do some port work and other mods and their 400 sports are very impressive.. Do a search in the forum for a person named A400L he is a friend of mine who has a sport and the rcr kit. He will tell you what he thinks.....

Thanks for the tip. I'll give your friend a ring and see what he says. How do you like the Banshee? Looks like a fun ride!!
