Break it in first, then hammer it. Like for the first couple of weeks. There's usually a break-in procedure listed in the owner's manual. Start with a White Bros. E-Series ProMeg slip on pipe, ProDesign/K&N air filter setup and a Dynojet kit for the carb. That pile will run you about $400. After that consider a swingarm skidplate to replace the sorry stocker. PRM makes a good one for a decent price. Check them out at www.prm-atv.com

Congrats, I got the exact same quad.
As soon as you get the quad, RUN to the phone and order up a Pro Design Pro Flo air filter/adaptor kit. I can't stress this enough. The stock air filter design SUCKS and will leak dirt into your brand new engine in no time - trust me on this one.
Also, next get a SWINGARM SKIDPLATE. The weak stock one that is meant to protect the brake rotor and rear sprocket will get chewed in no time (I actually discovered that it had bent up so far that it was rubbing the rotor! - and I didn't hit anything too hard under there).
Then ride it stock for a couple weeks to break it in.
Now it's time for a pipe. I have the Big Gun and it works great but there are many other good choices out there. You'll have to do a little research on this one. When you put a pipe on you WON'T regret it though- it really wakes the quad up.
Another thing you can do to make the quad go faster is install a 14 tooth front sprocket in place of the stock 13 tooth. The Warrior has plenty of torque, so it can easily pull a taller gear to give you better acceleration and top end to pass your buddy.
I've done all of these mods to mine and I must say I have a pretty sweet looking and running quad. They were easy to install and have given me no headaches so far.
Hope these tips help you.

Get a skid plate, the stock one will derail your chain, warp your rotor and drive you crazy rubbing the rotor after you hit something harder than a anthill. After breakin be sure to check that axle nut,if out on the trail the easiest way to check the axle nut is to grab the rotor to see if it has play.Pull the rear wheels off and grease the splines well, they will last a long time if greased often.Get a pipe, univents for the air box,K&N filter with skins and holeshot tires.

Okay here's what you do. Cancel buying your Warrior. You'll outgrow it's power and handling in fairly short order. Put the cash down for a Raptor or 400EX. I've got a 98 Warrior and it was a really nice quad, in fact I still have it. It will never compare to the Raptor and it doesnt have the build potential of a 400EX. That being said if you still get the Warrior you need complete skid plates, Maxxis All track 22x11x9 rear tires (fit the stock rims) and a steering stabilizer. These improvements will make you faster than a pipe will. The handling will be much improved as well as traction in sloppy areas. The skids will save you when you fly over rocks and keep you from trashing very expensive parts. If you mail order you can get these for around $400. Next I'd buy the pro flow intake with K&N and run without the airbox lid (after rejetting) The intake is more restricted than the exhaust on a Warrior and you'll see more improvement for less money on the intake side.
