Raptor owners who have had starter problems, please read!

If you have had a starter problem, and were out of warranty, and Yamaha covered your parts I need your help. I am building a case for Yammy to cover my parts, they claim they won't cover me unless I can point to other circumstances where they have helped out. Now I know there are other people out there who have had their parts covered out of warranty. I need to get your serial #'s to feed back to the jerks at Yammy. Please help if you can, this will help others as well. Thanx in advance!

Starter started making a high pitched grinding noise after heating up. Apparently it is the stater motor (Bendix) that went out. Probably not many more than 30 hours on the bike. Yamaha is saying (bogus) that it was caused by me jetting to lean and my aftermarket pipe. Both of these are ridiculous because I always jet a little rich, just to be on the safe side and my pipe went on 30 days after the first time this happened! My mechanic and I are trying to make the connection with the Carb boots blowing off and backfiring to make this happen. I think we have a pretty good case but they won't believe any one else has had the problem unless I get some S/N's. It is important to make the connection with the boots blowing off because this is something Yamaha has put out an alert on and a known problem.

Are you sure it is the bendix and not the one-way starter clutch? Myself and about 5 other people I know had the one-way starter clutch go out on our raptors. All of them where fixed by the dealers for free, and at least 2 of were out of warrenty. The parts cost about $250.. When the dealer took mine apart the one-way bearing fell too pieces and the race on the gear it rides on was all rough and shot. Everybody that I know that had this happen has not had a problem since. Symptoms were- hard starting, turning over slow, grinding noise, not engaging and hesitating when turning over. Your dealer should fix this under warrenty. But this is just my opionion so take it for what it is worth.

yeah that happend to mine 3 times then when my dad put it back together in stead fo having the dealer put it together it works fine. what they do is the instuctions say to put grease on the bearings but then the oil doesnt get on them cuz of the grease s0o just dont put the grease now it works fine with no problems. but the carb. boots keep falling off. but dont put the grease on it its been fine for a month and ive put like 100 hours on it since the last time i got it fixed.

Sorry but I won't see or talk too most of those guys until the harescrambles series starts back up. I can tell you that all of them were from the first couple of shipments from the factory. Mine and another one were from the first shipment. Your dealer should talk to yamaha and fix it for you. Mine and another were fixed without any hesitation by the dealers. Good Luck

UT660R my starter's one way starter clutch went out. It was fixed under my 6 month lim. warranty. My # is JY4AM01301A003413. They might have called this a good will I can't remember. Let me know what happens because mine is acting up again. I got from Laurel Yamaha.
