Hi
A friend and I bought a pair of 2001, 300s. When got into a discussion over the horse power rating. He figures it is about 34hp and I figure it is about 15hp. My cousin tried to help by calling 3 different dealers and they all say it is not publicizied. However he was quoted a guess of anywhere from 15 to 35 hp.
Can anyone out there give me the true HORSE POWER rating of the 300?
I would like to settle the argument with my buddy once and for all.

I would guess somwhere between 15 and 30.... I feel like 24 is a safe number. Seems that mose bikes make about 1hp per 10cc's give or take a couple.

My 2 cents.

Mike,

Look on the Statement of Origin if you have one. As a reference, my 500i AC is rated at 29.5HP (SAE) and I believe my friend said his 400i was around 24HP. That might put you into the 19HP range but there are a lot of things that can effect HP besides CCs and I don't know the differences in the engines well enough to give you any better guess.

Bob

PS. I'm quite certain the 300 is no where near 34HP.

It's ure nowhere near 35hp, or 25hp, but you'd be close at 15hp.

According to the Statement of Origin for my 2000 300, it makes 14.5 HP (SAE). Not very much for a machine that heavy. Good thing it has the 3 speed sub-tranny.

Ford4x4 is correct, I saved my statement of origin from my 2000 300 4x4 and it says 14.5 h.p.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I can finally settle our on going argument. One more question. I'm not familiar with the statement of orgin. What is a statement of orgin? Maybe in Canada we call it something different.

The statement of origin is like a title for a automobile. It provides the V.I.N.# (serial), engine serial #,engine Displacement(cc's) the manufacturer and build date and the dealer to whom they sold it to. It make's it easier to register the atv at the motor vehicle dept.
