I'm looking for a dry storage box (hard type) to mount on the rear rack of my Prairie 650. I've looked around on the Internet and have seen a number of different styles. Looking for comments from riders who have boxes.

My box holds a lot. It is tough too. Latches are nice.

It is kinda big.

Follow the link to my 650 website.

Thanks for your reply...I actually stumbled across your pictures and enjoyed looking at them, that's what inspired me to look into a storage box again. Does your box have a back pad?

I have a Tamarack Box, it has rope storage in the lid fits the rack nice and even allow you to direct bolt it to the quad. I bought mine from Crashman so I could not tell you what they cost however I like mine as Crashman had a day bogging and I messed around in the wet weather here and everything remained dry. It does not get in the way in my opinion and offers a lot of storage. If you would like I am going to get a digital camera soon I will take a pic and forward it to you.

My box has no pad. It takes up a little bit of seat area and is a little bit of a tight fit with 2 riders. I only let 12 year olds or younger sit back there.

I bolted it on directly. It is extremely water tight, dry everywhere but probably not if you submerge it.

My brother has the $200 one from cabelas, which is really good for riders.

Here is a picture of it on my brother's 400.

My kawasaki box is the king for storage, but sux for riders. My brother's box is a little lean on space, but is probably the best for riders.

Pictures would be nice to see from a real mount. I looked at the picture from 'nyroc' and saw that he has one on a Kawasaki. The seat on my Prairie 650 is pretty big, I'm curious how much room there would be for the second rider with a Tamroc box. Thanks...

Nyroc has the rear Kawasaki box on his which you can see on the Buykawasaki website. I bought the front box and mounted it on the rear. It is 7 inches tall instead of 12 and slightly smaller in length and width. You can look at the website for diminsions and compare storage space by looking at the foam insert pictures for the two boxes. The smaller box leaves a lot of room on the quad and makes it easier to dismount during a rollover, but you can't cram as much stuff in it as the large one. I would like to have both and switch boxes for riding or camping. They are pretty tough as well. I flipped mine forward at Beasely and it split partially in half. I stitched it back with a few holes, ty-wraps, and RTV and it is almost as good as new.

this sounds stupid but i bought the Kawi box from their web site i went with the front one to mount on the front i did a quick glance at it the other day and it appears i have to drill holes in that match my bolts on the front rack. the template has some markings witch appear to be hole marks but they are no where near the bolts i need. i will take a better look later. If anyone has any tips or better instructions feel free to let me know.it would be nice to know before i blast some holes into such a pretty looking box.thanks

Mine template was useless like that too. I put box in place, then used a small nail to score the bottom of the box through the rack's holes. I'm not sure if you'll have room for that. You could also put the bolts in first, so the heads stick up, and use the heads to mark paper or cardboard that you have taped to the bottom of the box.

Drill, Bolt, Voila!

I made my holes a little big, then used a stainless fenderwasher on top of a rubber washer (same size as fender washer, plumbing section of hardware store).

My brother is not that careful. He made a few extra holes in his before he got it right.
