I have a frend with a 2002 400ex that is wanting to put a 440 kit on it.With the kit he would also prolly put on a pipe jet it and a k&n. The other guy I know has a 250r that has a pipe , silencer, jets, reeds, and k&n filter. How would either of those bikes run against my stock 2000 DS?

440 will be about even. 250R will beat you.

i dont think so! not that i think a ds is the fastest thing alive, cuz raptors are haha.anyway we just had a stadium race here and its a small arena, basicly was a flat track oval course with two small jumps on each straight.burbanator has a ds with pipe, filter, rev box, thats it,he started from the back row and finished a 7 lap main in 3rd behind a 440ex and 250r,it took him a few laps to catch them and with a couple more laps he would of had first, they stopped the race short,it was to be a 8 lap main, also he did pass the 440ex a couple laps before they stopped the race and when they stopped it the guy drove by him and there was some confusion as who got 2nd,basicly he got screwed.i also raced my raptor against the 440ex and a 250r with all the goods in my heat,4 lap heats, got hit by a banshee off the line, got 3rd to the first turn, passed the 250r in 2 laps, and was all over the same 440ex,before getting run off the track be a lapper and ending back up in 3rd,we unloaded on a 1/2 mile sprint car track before the race,of course everyone had to go play on it and it didnt take long before there was a row of quads lined up on the front staight, repeated draggs 3/4 away around the track were won mostly by my raptor with either me or a freind aboard, the 250r and 440ex were running behind alot of stock raptors, with small modds, burbanators ds is not that much slower than my raptor in a dragrace and will beat most of the slightly modded raptors that were racing these honda guys.i havent found a fast 250r yet.i know form what ive seen that a 250r thats still in the 250cc range is no match for a piped raptor or ds in a drag, and burbanator proved on a littel dinky track you could still spank em with a bigg ol tank like a ds

derbyking,

Is your raptor stock? Have you ever raced a stock Ds when(if) your raptor was(is) stock on an asphalt road?
You said that you don't beat the Ds's by much. I was just wondering if you had any mods to beat a stock Ds? This coming up sunday I will be out playing with a couple 250R's and maby some mild banshee's so ill tell you guies how it goes.

The rider has to be at least 50% of the equation. Especially in a track or MX situation. Pure drag racing is a fair way to judge horsepower to the ground vs. weight but we've all seen what a good rider can do there too. Great equipment can make up for some of a riders deficiencies, but only to a certain point. I am living proof of that.
.....I think all these quads are competitive, and the rider is going to make more of a difference than anything. Of course each of these quads is a little better at one thing. Modifications, rider preference and suitability all enter into the equation. Bottom line, Ride what you like. Fast rider + Fast quad = Victory. I like my DS, a lot. It's a lot better quad than I am a rider. It's nice to have equipment that's better than you are. The other way 'round sucks.

You guys keep saying a 440EX can't beat a stock DS or Raptor but when my wife had hers she beat her share and trust me she may be light but she is not a skilled rider. Now that she has a 465 she beats even more.

A 440 ex that is built right can BLOW away a stock DS. I have alot done to my DS and the only 4 stroke to ever beat me was a 440 ex. That was in the sand in 600 feet.

But it still gets back to "What you like". I really like my DS on the trails, to me it is the very best part of what I ride, where I ride.
I have ridden several 400EX's and quite frankly I don't care for them. They seem little and twitchy to me, like one wrong move and I'm on my ear.
I'm sorry but that's the way they feel to me. Maybe with more time on one I could get more comfortable, but I'd never be as comfortable as I am on my DS.
......Now a Motocross track could be a different story. A specialty racer like a Cannondale MX could really be a whole 'nother level of performance I have not experienced. But out on the trail, I'll take my DS.

I will be in the dunes with it next weekened and then I will let you know. The fit seemed ok, just a little looser than stock, but I think it is fine.
