Bead leeks
#1
I just bought a set of douglas rims 9x9. I put a set of holeshots on them. 20x11x9. The left tire has leaked from the bead since they were mounted. I have taken them back 2 times to the people who mounted them and no luck. The last time they cleaned the rim and tire, and put bead sealer on the rim. Filled the tire with 20lbs. of air and I let it sit for about 4 hours to dry. I droped the air to 5lbs, went for a ride and now it is leaking again.
Should i use slime or fix-a-flat?
Is the tire messed up or the rim, or the people doing the work..??
Thanks for info..

Blaster29,
Go get yourself some soap&water and a spray bottle, spray the mixture where you think to leak is and you can see exactly where it leaking when the bubbles form. You may have a bad rim. or there maybe a screwdriver stuck in the bead. or maybe a arm or leg from the guy who installed.

most atv tires leak somewhat, you might want to try slime or something similar, I would stay away from the fix-a-flat unless desperate. my front holeshots go down from 6 lbs to 2 lbs, in 3 days I rarely need to add air to the rear tires

Blaster29,
Any and all info is very helpful.
Before you go out and spend any money, use process of elimination starting with that soap and water. If you have a hairline crack in the bead of the rim, you could have it replaced under any warranty if any apply. But you gotta know where its coming from.

I have a leak in one of my rear tires. Last month I took it to the shop and the mechanic showed me that the rim had a flat spot in it. No matter what we tried, we couldn't get it to stop leaking in the flat spot and I had to buy a new rim. The only thing is that I still have a few bead leaks but not as bad as before. We tried bead sealer but with no luck. It appears the tire is bad.....it looks like a previous owner at one time used the old flathead screwdriver method to remove the tire and chopped up the bead in a few spots so I guess I am stuck with a slow leak until I replace my tires later this year.
I looked into Slime but according to their website, their product will not work on bead leaks.

Blaster29,
If your leak is the actual bead and not crack in the rim. DeBead the tire and if you have some silcone sealer laying around, put some of that in the area of problem on tire and rim, let set about 15 mins and reinstall then set bead and lower pressure to 5 lbs so silicone doest squeeze out. The silicone should fill the small voids. It worked for me.

Thanks for the info.. I did use saop and water to find the leak. It is where the tire meets the rim.. The guys that installed teh tire used screwdrivers and force to do it. I asked why he did not use the machine and he said this was easier.
I think I will have them replace the tire..
