Few questions about 3004x4 and 2504x4
#1
I have been looking to get a new quad for my girlfriend to ride and maybe my younger brother will occasionally. I have been looking at the 3004x4 and the 2504x4. I would appreciate any input that you guys may have. Anything you guys like or dislike about the machines?
Also:
1. What price did you pay for each.
2. Top speed and acceleration of each. ( especially the 250 b/c it seems like the quad would be kind of heavy for such a small engine)
3. I noticed that the 300 has selectable 2wd/4wd but I was wondering if the 250 was also selectable.
P.S. my girlfriend is about 120lbs. and brother about 150lbs.
Thanks,
Steve

Ok I'll try to answer your questions:
1) I paid $3695 for my left over 2001 AC250 4x4. It was purchased about a week after Sept. 11.
2) Top speed of the 250 (using a GPS) is roughly 38mph.
3) You can get a kit to be able to switch from 2wd to 4wd. I think I paid $80, it's fairly simple to install and should only take a couple of hours at most.
To give you a little background: I'm 165lbs, and usually ride double with my girlfriend (just bought a rear seat with tail lights). I'm not really a mud runner, but at times it's fun to get dirty. Most of my riding buddies have SP500s but I've also ridden with 700s, Mag 425s, 650s, all sorts of Hondas, and Grizz 660s. There is no place they can go that I can't. My cat just is slower, lacks the big bore power and top speed. Most of the time on the trail we are 2 or few 3 yards away from one another. After 300 miles I have no real complaints (more ground clearance would be nice). There is no real power difference between a 300 and a 250, since the true displacement of a 300 is something like 280cc (not quite sure of the number). Basically either machine is tough to beat, although the 02 300's have nicer plastic.

I looked at the 250 4 by and turned it down. Too little power for one of the heaviest machines in its class. I felt that the little 4 stroker was turning too many wheels. I did ride and buy the 250 2x4. I am not a little dude--245 lbs. and am pleased with the performance. I would really look at the 300 if you are insistant on the 4 by--
Good luck
