To the Gurus in the know,

I have a 2000 400EX, with White Bros. e-series slip-on, Uni-filter, and lots of holes in the lid. It has been Dyno tuned by Trinity in Southern Ca. for the Grand total of 28.2 Peak HP.

Now for the BAD news, my friends quad racer 250 (15 years old) beats me in a drag. He hits 3rd and is gone. Same with a 2000 DS.

Now the battle begins. I need to beat them both, I make more money than either of them, so thats not that big of a concern. Reliability is a concern, I like to push start button, go fast, win race.

What are the PROVEN motor mods to make to ensure they see my tail lights? I've been to Trinity, they want about $1,400 for a 440.

I ride Dumont Dunes and Pinion Hills, and other SOCAL areas.

Thanks for any help.

Ahhhhh, not exactly what I had planned. If that where an option I would use the new Honda 450 motor. I hate seeing Chevy motor is Ford cars also, but that's me.

Sell the 400ex and buy (1) of these quads... Youll have less headahe and more fun winning:

(1) Banshee... Get a set of pipes and those guys are going to be bummin for a long time. Wont cost more than $1200 more than your current ride, is relieable, and parts galore.

(2) Cannondale... Aluminum frame and EFI, Need I say more.. reliability may be an issue, but does not seem to be at this point.

(3) A Raptor. About same performance wise as the DS, but looks better(I like the DS looks as well, dont flame me!!!)

(4) Your own DS. If you cant beat em, join em!

(5) A Suzuki Quadzilla, the big brother to the Quadracer. These bad boys ar just plain fun!!!

Or maybe a 440 kit and Nitrous for the 400ex..

ROostKing...

Thanks for the reply.

I thought about a banshee but the sound of two stocks drives me nuts. High pitches remind me of the X-wife.

I rode my buds DS and hated it. Too big for me it just felt wrong, Loved the power though.

The Cannondale is looking good but the one I'd buy is $11,000. The current wife, I'd like to keep. I'm not sure that the statement "Honey, your engagement ring was more than that." would work.

The Raptor is looking good and they are in stock all over the place. But brand loyalty (Honda for Bikes, Fords for Cars/Trucks) may be my down fall.

I'd like to get a 440 Kit installed and have been doing all the reading at the web sites. Having been in sales, I would like user information, on who is best. (not the Cheapest)

If Honda puts that new CFR450 motor in a quad, I'll get that. But in the meantime?

Thanks

Smitty

once you start to do internal motor mods to a 400ex it starts to overheat quite quikley. So honeslty your best bet for ultimate performance is a new egine like someone above said. just face it the 250 engine is faster. And it will cost you alot of money and trouble to heavily modify. have you ever thought of putting a 250 twostroke engine in it like a 250r or even better a 2000 cr250 engine... woooooooaaaaaaaa. thats what dreams are made of.....

I think you're looking at the wrong Cannondale. If you ride mostly dunes you probaly want the Speed (~$8000), not the Blaze or Moto which are GNCC and MX-race specific bikes.

smitty-Where is Pinion Hills?? The Duncan 440 has a good reputation, but you need to do more than just bore it out (hard surface the rockers, etc.). I put on a Edelbrock Quicksilver Carb, and gained a lot of mid and high end pull. A K&N might give you more air than the Uni.

I ride with a friend who has a very strong TC 465 stroker. It beats many piped raptor's, banshee's and most 250r's at silver lake. The motor does run hot and due to the large cam cannot be idled. Once you start it you ride it. My 250 and a friends are very fast and do beat the 465 in a drag race by one or two lengths. The friends 250 was done by mp racing (265cc) and my bike was done by myself. My 250r is 267cc, top-end porting, cool head, paul turner pipe, 39mm carb, boyseen rad valve.

The previous year he had a TC 490 motor which produced 43 or 45 rear wheel HP. But the 465 stroker motor was probably 2-3 lengths faster in the drags. Even though my 250 is faster more people are amazed at his 400 and look at his motor (i'm jealous) because its usually in the front of the pack at the drags. 440 kits loose by 5 lengths.
