I did some rough measuring last night, and I'm not sure if outlaw 28x12.5x12inch tires will work on my AC.

Does anyone know what the maximum size you can throw on these AC's without a lift or big tire kit?

Thanks in advance!

Thats a lot of tire for your 400. I think you will need a lift though, but not for sure. I had 27" 589s on my 01 with slight rubbing while riding aggressevly. Like I said though that is a lot of tire for your 400. That is a lot of tire for my 500.

Thanks for the response Mudcat, if they do fit, do you think they will be hard on the engine in heavy mud? I plan to go with some friends of mine in very deep mud, and I need tires like these to get through.

If your 27" tires rubbed, then I think I would definately need a big tire kit. I saw them online for about $80.00

I have a 2000 400 4x4 and installed 25 inch Titan 589's. I should have gone to the 26" as the Titan 589 is a little smaller than the stock 489's that came on it. As far as putting on 28" I would say don't. The extra traction you will get with the more aggressive tire will tax your 400. Going to 28" will kill it. I have a jet kit and a K&N filter and it will bog the engine in high range in second gear in deep mud with 25" I suspect you would always need low range as soon as you got near any kind of soup. The other thing to keep in mind is the added wear and tear.
Cheers Jim

I have 25" on there now, so you would recommend to stay with those?

I ordered a set of Titan 589 M/T's this week. 26x9 front & 26x12 rear. I did alot of reading and thinking before deciding on this size. I looked at the older 25x10 589's at my dealer and they did seem to be a little shorter than the 489's of the same size. So I figured that the 26" should be roughly the same height as the stock tires. I was (and still am) concerned about these tires bogging the motor down, but I guess that is what low range is for. They should be here Friday so I will post back here to let you know how they fit.

dude the 28s are to big for that machine they might be ok on a 700 or 650 but there gonna whip your 400 at the most 27s would be good but your best bet is gonna be a set of 26 inchers you know i have a 500 ho and 28s are to much for that thing Anyways you should have gone yesterday it was awesome i put mine through the ice (and myself) took about 45 minutes to get it out 4-5 feet of water ice was about 4 inches but when i got it out i killed the battery trying to get it going again had to have jesse tow me out then we used the truck to jump it got it going and went right back into the bottoms and did another 2 hours of riding (glad i was wearing chest waders) also had a great time in about 3 feet of water riding up onto ice chunks we btroke off and floating around on them to fun

You would be better off with a set of 26" or 27" tires and the lighter the better. You will be happier with a set up like this, than 28".

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will try to find a deal on the 26" or 27's.

Filthyhabit, I really wanted to go on Saturday, but I will definately go next time. I sounds like you guys had fun. Is the bottoms still hard, or are there some ruts yet? I was out in the corn field on sunday, and there are some real soft spots out there. One area I was riding in was about a foot deep. Let's just say my CAT is really muddy now

I'm heading over to a store called 4 Wheel drive in Minneapolis tomorrow to pick up my Warn winch mount and roller fairlead. They specialize in 4wd stuff. You looking for anything?
