I'm going to be looking at a ATC sometime soon, the guy(i work with him) said it was a 85 or 86 he's not sure, he thinks its a 250r(again not sure), but he said it runs... he said he's selling it b/c of back probs & can't ride it.
but i'm curious... (if it is a 250R)
what parts will swap onto a TRX250r chassis?
obviously most of the front won't, but what about the engine, swingarm, axle, brakes, rear plastic, etc...??
also, what are the rest of the parts worth? i know it also depends on condition... but ballpark figs would be great
thanks in advance,
Andre

The motor is a straight swap. I am almost positive the whole rear end will bolt up to an 86 frame, but I am probably worng as I have never heard of it being done(not very positive I guess) anyway, ask him if it's liquid cooled before you go look at it, if it is then go check it out, otherwise it's not worth having unless it is mint and you want to keep it that way. Let me know if you get it as I would like to buy the tank from it if you'll sell, because mine has a couple white marks and everything else looks awesome except the tank. One thing to note, if you ride it around, be aware, I started from behind an LT250 and still pulled ahead of him before the end of my driveway which is about 200-300 feet long. Oh another thing, if you get it and are using parts for a TRX, will you sell me the forks?

The swingarms are the exact same, they are both gold and have the blue pro link name on them so the other stuff is probably the same too. other people are talking about it and im pretty sure the gear ratios are differnt.

the rear braking system is different but nonetheless should mate up ok.. if you get a clymer manual ( it covers 85 and 86 atc and 86 - 89 trx), some of teh pictures and tables show the differences

thanks for the replies,
i was told on another forum that the '85 is slightly different than the '86 ATC's
if so, what is different? how do i tell the difference just looking at them?
also, isn't the swingarm different on the '88-'89 trx?

i may go look at it on saturday morning, depending on his schedule. he says it runs, but i'm probly going to leave it if its anything other than a 250r. i'm looking at it as a possible parts donor for a rolling chassis trx.

there was an article on this site a few months back about a similar project, but they didn't go into too much detail... as in what swaps are possible between these two and which ones are better for this.

the swingarms are different on the 86-87' trxs compared to the 88-89's... mainly the 88-89 uses a single tobe all away acress the the swingarm pivot bolt.. whereas the 86-87 uses a split design and incorporates a rear engine mountif you go to my link you will see the 86-87 design

thanks for the help, i'll keep this info in mind when i run across the right rides for the right price.
i started asking more specific questions about what he has, he said it has no radiator and the exhaust pipe is a single diameter until it gets to the silencer...
in other words it isn't a 250r, i don't think i'll even look at it... it's not what i want.
still i have learned something new from this...
