Lets get all this choke cable BS cleared.

I see so many posts about the choke cable causing problems. My dealer tells me that my cable was corrected before delivery. If I go to the Kawi website and check my 650 for any recalls there arent any listed. I've seen some of you guys say that you had the plunger springs replaced by your dealer. My dealer is not aware of this needing to be done. I trust my dealer and he has not mislead me as of yet.
Can someone tell me the final answer on the cable?

I had the choke problem on my 650 and had to get new plunger return springs. It seems not all 650's are having this problem. The dealer gave me a new choke cable also but I didn't see any difference between the new one and the old one. There must be enough bikes with the problem for Kawasaki to be giving out new parts to fix them. I replaced them myself and from what I could see the old springs were just too weak to push the choke plungers back out of the carbs. This meant the choke was staying partially on. I took some pictures to show the difference.

Had my choke cable stick partialy on twice. Have a dealer that looks after customers. He replaced the choke cable with a new one.He said the he had one in stock but there was a new one with a different part # he could order that he installed. There is a problem with it for sure anyone that does some mudding are having a problem.Think about it you have the old ones in stock customer needs a new one.Bottom line get a good dealer.

I had the choke cable replaced in mine as well. My dealer told me that the new cable is about 4mm longer. Also, if you look at the part numbers, they discontinued the original cable and now it has a new part number for the updated cable.

Knowsalot...are you a dealer or mechanic? Is there anyway to tell what cable you have at present? I've had no problems with my choke and I wont try to fix what isnt broke but I would like to know what to look for.

I am a Floor Manager and a Parts Manager at a dealership. We carry Honda,Kawasaki,Yamaha,Suzuki,Cannondale, and KTM.
We haven't had the first Prairie 650 with a choke related problem. We received bulletins that there were models that were having the problem, and I have seen reports of it here on the net. I guess all of our customers that have bought them were just lucky.
I have no idea at what the update actually consists of because I didn't order any. I don't stock the older ones either. I stock items that sell. If I have a customer wanting the update and he has had a problem, I will be happy to get it for him "next-day",..but as I said, we haven't had any problems with them.
Goodluck to all of you guys having this problem. Hope everything works out.
