I predict that cat will be updating their analog instrumentation display with LCD in the new 2003 ATV's. Cat is in the process of offering their new sleds with LCD instrumentaion. I recently read a ride report of the (new to be released) sleds and they spoke very highly of the new display. It will not be a stretch to adapt the atv's to accomaodate the LCD dispaly. It is time that cat updated their display to be more in tune with the remainder of the atv market. Nothing wrong with the analog display, cable operated, but to be competative they have to change.

filthyhabit,

I've got to disagree! I really like those slick LCD displays. As a matter of fact I've got three LCD depth finder displays in the basement that failed and noticed that the new one I've got in the boat has moisture in it from the last trip out this year. Now maybe the ATV mfgs have done a better job on the displays but I kind of like the old "Huffy" design and, to be sure, it will be one H*ll of a lot cheaper to replace if needed. To me form follows function by a country mile and I don't really care if it looks like a stone age design as long as it works and keeps working. Ya, my wife thinks I'm a hopeless cause too.

It won't be bad if they can find a way to tuck it down out of the way like Yamaha has done. Same for the Prairie. The bars are going to hit good before the speedometer will. Unless you flip it over on a big rock or something.

In my opinion, AC will have to upgrade to an LCD display. It's all marketing.

With that said, I know a lot of cat owners, who have bought their AC's because they're pretty hardcore atv enthusiast, and want as little electronic stuff on their machines as possible. Less to go wrong, and have no problem with the analog display. Heck, they could always do what Polaris did on the 700. Analog gauge with a small LCD window at the bottom.

Bought my Cat for it's simplicity, don't want LED redouts, electric shifts, electric locks to much electrics to go wrong, too expensive to fix!!

I've heard that the Grizz won't run well without a speedometer. Andy could you or Silver Bear disconnect yours and see if this is true. I have heard that with the speedometer disconnected or broken it will only do about 10 mph. Sort of a get home mode.

It this is true, then it's just another reason for the KISS principle.

Minehunter, where was it that you posted the price difference between the Arctic Cat and another quads digital readout spedo?

I was thinking you said the digital pedo was over 200 dollars while the AC spedo was like 50 bucks.. I gotta throw my 2 cents in here. I TOTALLY agree the AC spedo looks like crap. But 50 bucks is much cheaper that over 200 bucks!

Looks like Grizz has well protected theirs tho..and for good reason!

I have been told that the speedometer for the Grizzly is about $252.00 if you had to replace it. I have had to replace the one on my cat and my dealer charged me $48.70. Big difference, especially when both do the same job.

Ya know, when I am riding, I don't even LOOK at my speedometer. I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
