Recently I bought two quads, a 2002 Trailboss and a 2002 Scrambler 400X. Well, it took about two seconds to get my Dad hooked, and now I am going to buy another one. What is everyone's opinion on the 500 verses the 400x. Will the 500 have the zip that the 400x 2 stroke has? I really like the good acceleration that it has. I know in the long haul the 500 is faster, but that's not as important to me as the quickness is. I appreciate all your opinions.

Don't get the regular 500. The 500X version is much cooler and is a better handling and alitlle faster quad. All the other stuff, black plastic, alum. bumber, make it look flippin cool!! If ur dealer doesn't have one, checkout cycle trader.com, they have a least 3 500X's last time i checked.

The 400 and the 500, stock, are side by side the whole way. It just matters who gets a better start if you ask me. Me and my bud race all the time (400 vs 500) and they are the same. I just like 4 stroke better personally(its a matter of opinion which one you like). But, the 400 has WAAAAY more potential of whomping on the 500 because it's a 2-stroke. As soon as you pipe and clutch the 400, it will be way ahead of the stock (or piped and clutched) 500. But, the 2-stroke also fouls plugs quicker and also requires more frequent rebuilds than the 4-stroke. I could go into this more, but this topic was covered numerous times on this forum...just do a search and you will see. What do you like better...2 or 4 stroke?

Thanks for the response Tyson, but the 500x doesn't have 4 wheel drive. For me that is absolutely mandatory. Thanks though.
