My friend looked into buying a 400ex in Canada. He would save about $500-600 U.S. on a new one. However, he would still have to register it in our home state (8% tax for us) and if it was not made in the United States or Canada, then he would have to pay duty. I think the 400ex is made in the U.S., so he wouldn't have to pay the duty.

Also to consider is the amount of gas, time, and travel to Canada.

Also, I hear that if he would need any warranty work, he would have to take it back to Canada to have it done.

So for him I don't think it is worth it just to save a few hundred dollars. However I've heard that the further north you travel, the better the deal you can get. And of course it is different for different locations. This is just an example of my friend who researched it.

I'm not sure if this means anything to either one of you but a SP700 Polaris in Edmonton AB. is 9349.00 with a 2000lb. warn winch. A kawi 650 with winch and rear trailer mount included is 9200.00 plus 7% tax no sales tax in Alberta. Those prices as are again with 7% tax for both bikes you can do the math when changing moneys from Canadian to American. You should also be able to get waranty from any dealer whether it is purchased in the States or Canada. Good luck on your purchase!

I bought my 2002 500i Cat in Selkirk, Manitoba. I paid $9100 with taxes and a 2500lb warn winch. The taxes are 14% here. You would only have to pay one sales taxes if you bought from out of province. This has been the best price all over Canada for a Cat, as far as I have heard or seen anyways.

Hey guys,
I'm from Newfoundland Canada. Bought a new Honda 350 4x4 (it is the same bike as the Rancher, just that it isn't called a Rancher here)just a few days ago. Price before options is $7500. With taxes that works out to $8625. plus another couple of hundred for license and registration. About $8800 Canadian total. How does that compare to your American prices. From what i read in these forums, it seems like you guys pay more.

When he says $9200 for the 650, I believe he is talking in Canadian Dollars. That equals out to be just under $6,000 US for it. I lived in Calgary for a little over a year, and can tell you, everything is cheaper up there, except for the gas. You pay .80 for a liter, that is $3.20 for a gallon, $2.00 US. But I can tell you, that bycycles, motorbikes (all sorts) are cheaper up there. A buddy of mine bought a 01 Ninja 600 for what would be about 4k US.
