Buying a new Cat!!!
#1
In ten days I pickup my new 500i manual. Green, 2500lbs Warn winch, Titan 589 M/Ss, hand warmers, thumb warmer, windshield. This bike will be used mostly for hunting, mudding, and FUN!!!! I just want to say this forum has been great, and thanks for all you help.

I looked at the Quest 500, but I don't want the swing arm suspension. I have a 2001 Rubicon now, so I wanted something different. I am totally impressed with the ground clarence, suspension travel, and the comments I have received from this forum. My biggest concern choosing the Cat was the question "is it powerful enough, fast enough?" Apparently the top speed is around 85 to 89KM (54mph). Well the best I get from the Rubicon is 85KM. From what I hear about the power, well I shouldn't be disappointed! All-in-all I think this is my best bet!!! Thanks to everyone for your feedback!! I will report in after riding.

Can't be long now.I was out to Johnson's last Friday to pick up a couple of parts for the Cat, nothing serious, lower fender and skid plate for the rear end. Stuff I broke myself keeping up with the Honda's. There were around 12 new Cats still in the crates. Eugene said most were all ready sold, I guess one was one of yours. I know you'll love the Cat, but please, anytime you see a Cat on the trail stop and say hello. Are you going to the Outdoor Show next week? I'm going with a buddy that still hasn't made up his mind, he's thinking about a Eiger. If Arctic Cat had the 375 in a manual with the ACT suspension, he would be sold.

zukiscott, I don't question the technical differences. As you may have noticed in my signature, however, I've had the chance to ride both the ATV's in question. Yes, there is a difference between the two, but it's not a LOT different. That said, if the 375 came in a manual, I'd probably prefer that too.
Your post makes me wonder, though...what would it take to turn a 400 into a 500?

The 400 and 500 use the same exhaust, head, and cam(truthfully i'm not sure about the carb as i haven't checked this) the other differences are that the 400 bore is slightly smaller than the 500 bore, the majority of the difference in displacement comes from a longer stroke on the 500(hence the 400 revving faster in the lower gears) I also know that the 400 and 500 motors have alot of over bore potential as there is alot of material between the cylinder wall and the water jackets, of course with if you were to use a big bore kit on this motor you would have to either resleeve or renikasil it.
